Obituary

Vito "Bill" Sapienza, age 87, of Grand Blanc, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Born December 3, 1937, in Detroit, Vito was the son of Peter and Mary (Lopiccolo) Sapienza. Vito married the love of his life, Mary Margaret Monahan, on September 5, 1960, and together they shared nearly 65 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on May 30, 2025.

Vito enjoyed a long career as a Cost Accountant with Ford Motor Company, where he dedicated more than 34 years of service. Known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, he brought those same qualities into his family life, always making sure everything and everyone was cared for.

Above all else, Vito was a devoted husband, father, and family man. Nothing brought him greater joy than being surrounded by loved ones. An extrovert by nature, he never passed up a good conversation and could make friends anywhere he went. He was the planner and organizer of the family, the one who made sure traditions were upheld and gatherings were meaningful.

Vito's happiest moments were spent around the table—cooking, eating, and laughing with family and friends. His love of food and family was so strong that he once endured gallstones in silence until dinner had been finished before seeking medical care. He also enjoyed playing cards, cheering for the Detroit Lions and Notre Dame, and bringing people together with his social spirit.

Vito was a very faithful man and prayed the Rosary every day.

Vito will be remembered as an amazing father, a caring family man, and the heart of his family gatherings. His legacy of love, laughter, and togetherness will live on in all who knew him.

Vito is the loving father of David (Berta) Sapienza, Denise (Ken) Loper, Stephen (Angie Roullier) Sapienza, Karen (Joseph) Elliott and Andrew (Mary) Sapienza; cherished grandfather of Matthew Loper, Scott Loper, Nick (Maggie) Sapienza, Noelle (Brandon) Satterfield, Blake Gilbert, the late Anthony Sapienza, Haley Sapienza, Madeline (Gabriel) Everett and Logan Sapienza; great grandchildren, Monte, Deshawn and Henry; fond brother of Salvatore (Ida) Sapienza, the late Joseph (Kathy) Sapienza and the late Sylvia Sapienza and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews .

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 3, 10 am (gathering 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Road, Farmington.

Interment will immediately follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
