Susanne E.
Carey
January 1, 1938 — February 1, 2020
Susanne Elliot Carey passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on February 1, at her home in Farmington.
Born January 1, 1938, in Bernardsville, NJ, she was raised by James and Eleanor Elliot, along with her older brother Johnathan. While attending Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, she met and fell in love with Peter Carey. After getting married and settling in Michigan, they had 3 children, Jonathan, Benjamin and Alison.
Then her life took a tragic turn as she lost her husband Peter, as well as her mother and brother, all within a year. But she refused to let this define her and she continued leading a full and adventurous life.
She will always be remembered as educated, opinionated, and a fiercely loyal woman. She was the best friend anyone could ask for, a wonderful mother, and an amazing grandmother. She will be missed by countless people for countless reasons.
She is survived by her children, Jonathan, Benjamin and Alison; her daughters-in-law, Reverend Melanie and Jenifer; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Grace and Maia; and the many friends she called family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday morning, February 8th, at 11:00 am, at Nardin Park United Methodist Church, 29887 West Eleven Mile Road, Farmington Hills. The family will receive guests at the church from 10am until the start of the 11 am ceremony. A reception will follow, beginning at noon.
Those who wish to further honor Susanne's memory are invited to consider donations to Cass Community Social Services , Detroit.
Kindly keep Susanne and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
