Obituary

James D. Compo, 75, died at his Farmington Hills home in Thursday, February 25th, following a brief illness.

Jim was born March 21, 1934, in Detroit, the son of John and Evelyn (Mucci) Compo. He was a graduate of Detroits Cass Tech, where he met his wife, Janet. He eloped at 18, and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. To further his abilities, he also attended Lawrence Tech. Architectural Program.

Jim was very involed with the Masons. He built the Masonic Lodge at 7 Mile and Eureka Roads, was the Worshipful Master for Masonic Temple from 1965-1966, and Past Master of the Eureka Lodge, #509.

One would say Jim was born to be a builder, as his father, John, was in the same business. He was incorporated as James D. Compo, Inc., for 50 years now, and really has been building for over 57 years in total. The number of custom homes built totals over an incredible 1000, and remodels total over 5000.

James D. Compo, Inc., along with Standard Federal Bank and the BIA created the opportunity to start the first development in Detroit in over 30 years. The project started in 1991 and built 21 new homes in Victoria Park. Compo built 3 Habitat homes including Blitz Build and taught several people rough carpentry. He is proudly the Past Builder of the Year, Remodler of the Year, the builder of several 1st Place award-winning homes, recent Hall of Fame winner (highest award given to builders), winner of Homearama, Parade of Homes and Calvacade of Homes.

His interests and hobbies are numerous, including Master scuba diving, instrument-rated pilot, running (from 1968-1983, he didnt miss one day running outside in this 15 year peroid), woodworking and trim carpentry, swimming, mountain biking, jet skiing, snowmobiling, snow and water skiing, fishing, hiking and vacationing with his family.

Jim would talk to anyone in a comfortable tone and is know for honesty, integrity, and wonderful quality of homes standing behind the product and even returning years later if any issues occurred. People loved being around him.

Jim is survived by his wife, Janet; brother, John; sister, Lynn Boneventura; two daughters, Carole and Eva; four sons, Chris, David, Mark, and Paul; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great grandsons.

The family will receive guests at the Funeral Home on Saturday, February 27th, from 4-8 PM, and Sunday, February 28th, from 2-8 PM.
