Obituary

Bill Leahy passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on February 23, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He enjoyed a wonderful week of laughing, memories, and happy hours the week before he passed, and he imparted all kinds of wisdom and lessons learned.

Bill was born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 5, 1945, to Lillian and Maurice Leahy. He grew up in Levittown, NY with his parents and two brothers, Jack (Chris) and Robert Leahy, where he enjoyed pranks with his friends, playing soccer in high school, fishing, and going to Jones Beach.

He loved traveling and spending time with his wife of 52 years, Evelyn as well as his daughters Carrie Leahy (Tim Wilhelm) and Jen Dompierre (Joe). He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Emma, Sam, and Charlie Dompierre, and Zack, Georgia, and Ivy Wilhelm.

His favorites times with his family included their annual Christmas Eve get together where he made sure the Norad Santa Tracker was up for the kids and that there was a good shrimp cocktail and the annual Father's Day barbecue where he would grill and we would take a family picture on the back porch.

He was a proud veteran, having been attached to the legendary operation safe side mission in Vietnam. He was one of the original Stay at Home Dads, staying with Carrie and Jen when they were young while he went to night school. His unique parenting style set the girls up to be strong later in life.

Bill loved a good grouper sandwich, a sunny day playing golf, and having a beer and burger after, and always looked forward to a trip to Florida. He was an avid weather tracker and would let anyone in the family know in advance of a trip what the weather was going to be like. His first car was a $250 old Alpha Romeo with no floorboards and to bring things full circle he bought his first Mustang at age 75; he loved taking drives in "The Pony" playing music loudly with Ev next to him.
