Mar 27, 1937 — Sep 5, 2023
Bill, of Plymouth, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, entered eternal life on Tuesday afternoon, September 5, 2023, at Angela Hospice Care Center, Livonia. He was 86 years old.
Bill was born March 27, 1937, in Detroit, to the late Edward and Laura (Kujawa) Boyke.
He lived in the Detroit family home, excluding short stays at the Gaylord Michigan Kujawa farm during World War II. He was a proud 1955 graduate of the University Detroit Jesuit High School where he learned to live as "a man for others".
Bill married the love of his life Elaine A. (Tuchowski) on June 18, 1960, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Detroit.
He graduated with a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from University of Detroit in 1961 and entered the Air Force as an officer. After 6 years, he returned to Detroit as a Captain with an honorable discharge and his family in tow. Bill and Elaine settled their family in East Detroit (now East Pointe) after moving 10 times in 7 years. After retirement, he and Elaine moved to a home in Plymouth, MI where they remained.
He worked on the Chrysler Redstone Rocket support buildings. His name is on the designs of interchanges on I-94 in Detroit, preliminary airfield designs for Detroit International Airport (DTW), Mobil Oil Gas Stations, Control Data Computer Line Printers, plants for Fruehauf and manufacturing lines for Ford Motor Company to name a few.
In his spare time, he and the family were avid campers pulling their Nimrod Popup with the Ford Station Wagon loaded with a 19-foot canoe all over the Midwest.
In addition, he was a painter, having studied at the Society of Arts and Crafts (now Center for Creative Studies) and a Technician Class Amateur Radio Operator, KC8GMF.
Surviving are his beloved and devoted wife of 63 years, Elaine; proud children, William (Carol), Ilene (Michael) O'Neil, Ann Marie (Paul) Spadafora, and the late Susan (Michael) Dillon (d. July 3, 2019); his brother, Robert Boyke; cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jordan Funk) Boyke, Katherine Boyke, Laura Boyke, Cameron (Tara) Dillon, Connor Dillon, Megan (Tommy) Hayman, Patrick (Claire) O'Neil, Gabe (Sara) O'Neil, Annie O'Neil, Julia Spadafora, and Jenna Spadafora; and great-grandchildren, Audrey O'Neil, Murphy Hayman, and Baby Boy Dillon due in November. In addition to his daughter, Bill was preceded in death by two sisters, June Bucknell and Adele Burns.
