William L. Bowen, "Bill", age 87, passed away peacefully at home in Farmington Hills, Friday, October 20, 2023.
Bill was born in Detroit, MI, August 14, 1936, the son of the late Christine and Bernard Bowen.
Bill was an avid golfer and card player, known for his impressive skills at the game of Euchre. Whether on the golf course or at the card table, Bill's competitive spirit was matched only by his sportsmanship.
Above all, Bill was a loving husband, a caring father, and a doting grandfather. Family was at the center of his world, and he poured his heart and soul into nurturing those he loved. His devotion to his family was unwavering, and he found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones, creating lasting memories.
In addition to his roles within the family, Bill was an active member of the community. He and his wife dedicated their time and efforts to volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul, providing assistance and support to those in need. Bill also coached many years of football and baseball with the Farmington Rockets and Our Lady of Sorrows, impacting the lives of countless young athletes. He was not just a coach; he was a mentor and a role model, instilling valuable life lessons through sports.
Bill was a devoted member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, where his faith played a significant role in his life. He approached his faith with a deep sense of devotion and was actively involved in the church's activities and outreach programs.
One of Bill's most remarkable qualities was his unwavering kindness and caring nature. He had a great sense of humor that could light up any room and make those around him smile. Bill had a unique gift for striking up conversations and connecting with people from all walks of life. His ability to listen and engage with others made him a beloved figure in the community, and he had a way of making everyone feel heard and valued.
Bill's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who were fortunate to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and community service, reminding us all to live with kindness and generosity in our hearts.
Bill is the loving husband of Antoinette for 64 years.
He is the beloved father of Therese Cleary (the late Patrick), William "Bill" (Deborah), Daniel, Kevin (Kristine), Jennifer Savage (Robert) and Michael; dearest grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of 1; fondest brother of the late Bernadette, Bob, Jeanette and Wilson.
His memory will be cherished by all his family members, friends, and those whose lives he touched through his incredible spirit.
The Bowen family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, October 24, 3-8 pm, with a rosary at 7pm.
A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 25, 10 am (in state 9:30 am), Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Rd, Farmington. Military honors will be performed by the Army immediately following Mass.
At a later date Bill will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society in Bill's honor.
