William Joseph
Bonasso
Jan 16, 1936 — Jul 3, 2025
William J. "Bill" Bonasso, of Northville, passed into eternal life late Thursday evening, July 3, 2025. He was 89 years old.
Bill was born on January 16, 1936, in Carolina, West Virginia, to the late Francesco (d. 1951) and Josephine (Audia) (d. 1985) Bonasso. On October 22, 1960, he married Maria S. (Angotti) at St. Angela Catholic Church in Windsor, Ontario. Together, they shared a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and generosity. Sadly, Maria preceded him in death on October 20, 2023, just two days shy of their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Bill was the devoted father to Frank (Lisa), Josephine, Mary Louise, John (Lisa), and Marcus (Kristy). He was the proud and loving grandfather of Alyssa, Jonathan, Eleni, Alexandra, Michael (Erin), Matthew, Mia, Peter, Samuel, Giovanna, and Annabella—each of whom will carry his love and stories in their hearts.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Bill was preceded in death by siblings, Russell (Julie), Jack (the late Dee), Sam (the late Kay), and Peter (the late Jane) Bonasso, and Lucille (the late Sam) D'Annunzio.
A man of deep faith and conviction, Bill placed primary importance on family, faith, and the value of education. He worked in sales for General Tire in Detroit and later dedicated 25 years of his career as a speech and hearing pathologist for Detroit Public Schools. In addition to his professional endeavors, Bill pursued numerous successful business ventures with unwavering energy and enthusiasm.
Known for his warm heart and generous spirit, Bill had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. There was always room for one more at his table—be it for dinner, a holiday celebration, or simply a conversation. He had a quick wit, an ever-ready joke, and a fondness for adding a unique touch to any story—an "em-Bill-ishment" that made each retelling more memorable than the last.
Above all, Bill cherished the moments spent with his children, grandchildren, and friends, creating a home and life full of laughter, learning, and love.
The Bonasso family will receive guests at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in downtown Farmington on Sunday, July 13th, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the Rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m.
Bill's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning, July 14th, at 10:00 a.m. (in state at 9:30 a.m.) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Road, Farmington.
Private entombment will take place in the Oakland Hills Mausoleum in Novi.
In honor of Bill's life and legacy, memorial tributes may be directed to the Solanus Guild of the Capuchins.
May he rest in God's eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Maria and surrounded by the light of the Lord he so faithfully served.
