Timothy W.
Roe
Aug 24, 1946 — May 15, 2023
Born on August 24th, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan Timothy Woodbridge Roe was adopted by his loving parents Donald Roe and Elizabeth (Smith). Shortly after, Donald moved the family to California, where Tim spent his early years. After his father's untimely passing, Tim and his mother moved to New Jersey. Here he developed a lifelong love for White Castles and thin-crust "Jersey Style" Pizza. After high school, Tim was drafted for service in the Vietnam War. He served in the United States Navy as a fire control technician and was later promoted to Petty Officer, 2nd Class. Tim was stationed on two Gearing Class Destroyers: the USS Ernest G. Small and the USS Gurke. While aboard the USS Gurke, Tim was part of the fleet that recovered returning astronauts from one of the Apollo missions. Additionally, while serving, Tim had the joy of being part of the first audience to view the original Star Trek, another fascination he would carry with him for the rest of his life.
Arriving back Stateside, Tim moved to Michigan with his mother and used the GI Bill to attend Lawrence Tech University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Here he would meet lifelong friends Bill, Pat, Hoy, and Dave as well as the love of his life, Celeste Ozimek. Celeste and Tim would be married on April 17th, 1982. After college, Tim began his career as an Electrical Engineer. He would become certified as a Professional Engineer (PE) and spend the beginning of his career working for the City of Detroit Water Department. While at the water department, he played a pivotal role in improving water quality for the residents of Southeastern Michigan. Tim and Celeste brought their first son, Alexander, into the world in December of 1986. Tim continued his professional career in water quality at Sigma Associates where he specialized in instrumentation and control panel design. He would remain with Sigma until his retirement in 2012. Tim and Celeste also welcomed a second son - Justin – in June 1993.
Tim was an advocate of technology. He was an early adopter of the home computer and introduced it to both of his sons. In addition to familiarizing his sons with emerging technology, Tim was a fan of computer games and boasted an all-time Solitaire high score of 10,251.
Tim had a passion for literature and read several thousand books during his lifetime. He also enjoyed cooking, getting together with his "Gourmet Club" every month for many years. His Prime Rib with Yorkshire Pudding and Rum Cake became a holiday tradition and family favorite. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and sons; and watching Lions football, Tigers baseball, and golf while sipping his signature Manhattan. Tim was also an adamant golfer, sharing this love with both sons and playing every Thursday and Sunday for many years.
Tim will be remembered as a kind, compassionate individual to all who knew him. Tim and Celeste were together for 48 years until his passing.
