Thomas James
Mather
Sep 30, 1961 — May 19, 2025
Thomas J. Mather, of Redford, unexpectedly passed into eternal life at his home on Monday, May 19, 2025. He was 63 years old.
Tom was born September 30, 1961, in Highland Park to the late James and Patricia (Fette) Mather. He was a devoted brother and a proud, loving uncle. Known for his gentle heart, kind spirit, and unwavering generosity, he brought warmth and care to everyone who knew him. His love for family was evident in every conversation, every visit, and every helping hand he offered—especially to his beloved nieces and nephews, who adored him.
Tom had a natural talent for mechanics and a passion for building. Whether it was crafting storage shelves or designing backyard decks, he found joy in creating and fixing things with skill and precision. He was also the proud owner and operator of Tom's Pressure Washing, a business he built through hard work and honesty.
A graduate of Farmington High School, Class of 1979, Tom's roots ran deep in the community. He began his education at Our Lady of Sorrows Elementary School and continued at Thomas P. Beahan Jr. High School. He will be remembered most for his loving nature, quiet strength, and the way he made people feel cared for and seen. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Tom is survived by his siblings, Suzanne (Joseph) Allegretti, Linda (Richard) Thomas, William (Anne) Mather, Mary Rose (Raymond) Case, Jane (Mitchell) Kline, Charles Mather, Ann (the late Derek) Gee, and James (Lynette) Mather, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A graveside ceremony is planned for Thursday morning, May 22, at 10:30 am, at the historic Oakwood Cemetery on the northside of Grand River Avenue (at Gill Road), in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, the Mather family asks that you honor Tom by lending a helping hand to someone in need—just as he so often did.
