Theresa
Wolski
Aug 30, 1930 — Dec 2, 2023
Commerce Township
Theresa Wolski, age 93, a Devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, a steadfast pillar of faith and education, passed away peacefully on First Saturday in Advent, December 2, 2023.
Born in Detroit on August 30, 1930, a first-generation American citizen born to Polish immigrant parents, Wincenty (Radom, Poland) and Jozefina (née Banas - Suchawola, Poland) Szymanski. The family attended Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church where she attended school. As a child she spoke both English and Polish and then French at the University. Theresa's life was a testament to hard work, resilience, and a deep-rooted commitment to her Catholic faith. Her journey was one of love of family and dedication, marked by her commitment to teaching at both St. Michael's Catholic School (Livonia) and St. Casimir Catholic School (Detroit), where her passion for education left an indelible mark on the lives she touched. Eventually her career took her to the offices of the Archdiocese of Detroit coordinating many events and working with Archdiocesan Cardinals, Bishops, and Priests.
After studying for her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Detroit, Theresa married the love of her life, John Fortunate Wolski Jr. on April 19, 1952 (he preceded her in death (1959)). With the Grace of God she raised two children single-handedly. Joining many confraternities and being an active member in the Felician community, she prayed for many and interceded through Ste. Anne, Mary, St. Joseph, St. Terese, St. Anthony, and Blessed Angela. Theresa helped the poor, fought for the underdog, and broke up physical fights. She supported the Military in remembrance of her brother Anthony, a decorated WWII Veteran. She kept abreast of current events in the church and world, and studied history. She enjoyed sports (skiing, tennis, golf, and was an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish football fan), was very artistic, and spent much time in nature for she loved being outdoors. With a love for music she sang in the church choir as well as for Pope John Paul II's visit to Detroit. We have great memories of listening to the Belle Isle Symphonies, John Philip Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever", Mario Lanzo's repertoire - especially "Guardian Angels", Arthur Fiedler / Boston Pops Orchestra of the "William Tell Overture", the Rat Pack, and Andrea Bocelli's concerts.
Theresa is survived by her son, David John (Susan) Wolski; daughter, Kathleen Josephine-Wolski (Lee) Nuttall; grandchildren, Kristy Marie (Brian) Schilling, Kassandra Marie (Sam) Cole, Kimberly Marie (Matthew) Kubicek, Timothy John (Maresa) Nuttall, and Kevin Traverse (Leah) Nuttall; great grandchildren, Elana Marie Cole, Adrianna Marie Kubicek, Knox Elliot Schilling, Easton Grey Schilling, Madeline Pamela Nuttall, Elizabeth Christine Nuttall, Josephine Lee Nuttall; and older sister, Jessica Gorski. Theresa was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Kowalik, Jane Giangrande, Anthony Szymanski, and Vincent Szymanski.
Theresa Wolski will be remembered for her fortitude, wit, love of life and family, her dedication to education, and unwavering faith that served as a beacon of light to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she influenced and the love she shared with all who knew her.
Theresa's family will receive guests on Friday, December 8, 2-8 pm, with a 7 pm Rosary, at the funeral home.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9, 10 am (in state 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington.
