Steven G.
Ashe
Mar 30, 1981 — Dec 12, 2024
Steven Gregory Ashe, of Waterford, a beloved father, son, brother, and friend, passed into eternal life on Thursday, December 12, at Trinity Health Oakland Hospital, Pontiac. He was 43 years old. Steve's journey through life was marked by both challenges and profound moments of strength, empathy, and compassion. Despite the difficulties he faced, Steve's tremendous courage and unwavering commitment to helping others shone brightly.
Steve was born March 30, 1981, at Providence Hospital, Southfield, to Jerry and Fran (Edwards) Ashe. He was a graduate of Redford St. Agatha High School, Class of 1999, and furthered his education at Oakland Community College. His passion for serving others led him to a fulfilling role as a caseworker at Community Housing Network in Troy where he went above and beyond to provide housing and mentoring for those experiencing homelessness. He was deeply committed to his work, advocating for the most vulnerable and offering support to those who often felt forgotten. His empathy and genuine care for others were evident in everything he did.
Steve had a special ability to identify those who felt they didn't quite fit in. A courageous soul, he was never afraid to be vulnerable and share his own struggles. His dedication to Narcotics Anonymous was a testament to his commitment to growth, healing, and supporting others on their own journeys. He was committed to NA for many years and what they stood for, spearheading events, and readily offering a helping hand or a listening ear to those in need, desiring the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.
Though his life was far from easy, Steve was always deeply grateful for the love, advice, and support from his family. Even in times of disagreement, he tried not to lose sight of the deep connection and bond he shared with his loved ones. He was a "grateful soul" whose heart was full of appreciation for the unwavering support he received from those closest to him. He was never afraid to acknowledge his faults, but always moved forward with a deep sense of humility and gratitude.
Steve will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and desire to help others struggling in life. His ability to offer understanding, compassion, and a sense of belonging to those around him will be remembered by those who knew him. May he find peace in knowing that his efforts, no matter how small they may have seemed, made a difference in the lives of many.
Steve is survived by his cherished son, Izaiah; his devoted and loving parents, Jerry and Fran Ashe; his loving siblings, Scott (Jen) Ashe and John (Jared) Edwards; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at Heeney-Sundquist on Thursday, December 19, from 3-7 pm. A time of prayer and remembrances is planned for 6:00 pm.
Steve's funeral mass will be celebrated Friday morning, December 20, at 10:00 am (in state 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington.
Private interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes are kindly suggested to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), namimetro.org.
Though he is no longer with us, Steve's legacy of love, kindness, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Steve – your journey on earth may have ended, but the impact of your heart and soul will endure forever.
