Stanley Paul
Wilkins, Jr.
Sep 19, 1923 — Jan 13, 2025
Farmington Hills
Stanley P. Wilkins, Jr., a beloved member of the Farmington Hills community, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2024, at Corewell Health Farmington Hills. Born in Detroit and a graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School, Stanley was an accomplished athlete, particularly excelling in baseball. His remarkable talent as a pitcher led to his being drafted by the Detroit Tigers.
Stanley's promising baseball career was put on hold when he was called to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. As a minesweeper, he served with distinction in both the Mediterranean and Pacific theaters, contributing to the war effort with unwavering dedication.
Following his military service, Stanley embarked on a successful career as an accountant with Chrysler Corporation. During his tenure, he worked closely with Lee Iacocca, becoming a trusted member of the team during a transformative era in the automotive industry.
In his later years, Stanley found joy on the golf course and bowling lanes, hobbies he pursued with enthusiasm. A devout Catholic, he was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, where he served as head usher for many years, fostering a sense of community and fellowship among parishioners.
Stanley and his beloved wife, Catherine, shared a deep love for their family and extended their warmth and generosity to their nieces, nephews, and even neighborhood children, treating them all as if they were their own.
When asked about the secret to his remarkable longevity, Stanley often credited his two daily "Stanhattans," a testament to his good humor and zest for life.
Stanley leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and dedication. His memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate to know him.
Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Stanley, his beloved wife of 63 ½ years, Catherine and his brother, Jerome Wilkins (Ann). He is survived by many loving and caring nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass celebrating Stanley's life will be Saturday, January 18, 10 am (in state 9:30 am), Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Rd, Farmington.
Immediately following Mass everyone is invited to join together at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Twp, for the committal service. Please meet at the cemetery at 12:30 pm.
