Soon Ae Yang, age 79, of Novi, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, after a courageous 7-year battle with dementia.

Soon was born on January 14, 1946, in Seoul, South Korea, to the late Doh Ji Kim and So Ah (Jung). She immigrated to the United States in 1976 with her beloved late husband, Yong Mo Yang, in pursuit of a better future. Together, they embraced the American dream, eventually becoming U.S. citizens and building a life centered on love, hard work, and faith. They were married for 47 wonderful years until his passing on June 12, 2023.

A woman of unwavering integrity and determination, Soon Ae worked tirelessly in manufacturing before following her entrepreneurial spirit. She first opened a gift shop in a hotel, and through perseverance and dedication, she later established her own successful dry-cleaning business. Her work ethic and resilience were unmatched, and she took immense pride in serving her community with excellence.

Soon's legacy is one of perseverance, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her, but her strength and spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Soon is survived by her loving daughters, Edna, Amy, and Susan; dearest grandchildren, Kaia, Dakari, Mai, Thi, Tai, Yen, and Tam; and siblings, Ok Bong Kim and Kyung Jae Kim.

She was preceded in death by her adored husband, Yong Mo Yang, and siblings, Ok Soon Kim, Ok Geum Kim and Dae Bong Kim.

Family and friends may gather at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, on Saturday morning, February 15th, from 9 am until the 11:30 am funeral ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association to further honor Soon's life.
