Sister Michaeline Lewandowski, a talented artist and dedicated educator, entered eternal life on Wednesday morning, January 31, 2024, at St. Anne's Mead Assisted Living in Southfield. She was 94.
Sister Michaeline was born on January 5, 1930, in Posen, Michigan, to the late Benedict and Martha (Klein) Lewandowski. Sister dedicated her life to serving both her religious community and the wider world. She entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 7, 1950, and professed final vows on August 16, 1956, where she embraced a life of prayer, compassion, and artistic expression.
Sister Michaeline's unwavering commitment to her faith, her artistic endeavors, and her passion for education left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her parents, Sister was preceded in death by siblings, Ralph Lewandowski and Henrietta LaTulip, and a nephew, Michael Lewandowski.
Surviving are nieces, Anne (Edward) Gariepy and Deborah Lewandowski; nephews, Joseph, Richard, Robert, Gerald, and John Lewandowski; other extended family members, as well as her Sisters in the Mercy Community.
Visitation for Sister Michaeline is planned for Sunday afternoon, February 4, from 2-4 pm, concluded by a 4 pm Vigil Service, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington. Click HERE to view a recording of Sister's Vigil Service).
Sister Michaeline's funeral mass will be celebrated Monday morning, February 5, at 10:30 am (in state at 10:00 am) at the Church of the Transfiguration, 25225 Code Road, Southfield. Click HERE to view a livestream of Sister's Funeral Mass.
There will be a luncheon in the Parish Hall following mass prior to departure for Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Committal prayers at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, will follow the luncheon.
