Obituary

Shirley Anne Liskiewicz, age 88, of Commerce Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

Born on November 26, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, Shirley was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Julia (Kusiba) Gosk. Proud of her Polish heritage, Shirley kept traditions alive, especially during holidays. She delighted in sharing festive meals and cherished family moments. Her grandchildren particularly adored the Oplatki Christmas wafers, a symbol of her rich cultural legacy.

Shirley's faith was the cornerstone of her life. A devout Catholic, she held her church and upbringing in high regard, often reminiscing about the nuns who encouraged her to pursue higher education. Her love for the Lord was evident in all she did.

Shirley's heart belonged to her dear husband, Ed, who knew from the start that she was "the one." Together, they raised six children, of whom she was immensely proud. Her legacy of love extended to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each bringing her great joy. We will forever remember her with love, gratitude, and admiration for the strength, kindness, and forgiveness she demonstrated.

Shirley is survived by her loving children, Edward (Elizabeth) Liskiewicz, Stephen Liskiewicz, Robert (Julie) Liskiewicz, Julia (David) Hook, and Sheryl Liskiewicz; cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Stacey) Liskiewicz, Laura (Nick) Pelky, Briana (Nick) Todd, Evan Liskiewicz, Mollie Liskiewicz, Megan Liskiewicz, William (Kaitlynn) Liskiewicz, Tommy Liskiewicz, Edward Andrew Liskiewicz, and Natalie Liskiewicz; and treasured great-grandchildren, Sydney Liskiewicz, Ruby Liskiewicz, Henry Pelky, Lucy Pelky, Owen Todd, Ophelia Todd, Eric Todd, Liam Liskiewicz, and Gavin Liskiewicz.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward J. Liskiewicz (d. 2010), her loving daughter Angela Wiewiuria, and her son-in-law, Norman Wiewiuria.

The Liskiewicz family will welcome guests on Monday, July 1, from 2-8 PM, with a rosary service at 7 PM, at the funeral home.

A funeral mass to celebrate Shirley's life will be held on Tuesday, July 2, at 10:00 AM (in state at 9:30 AM), at Our Lady of Sorrows, 23815 Power Rd., Farmington. A luncheon will follow the mass at a venue to be announced at the church.

Shirley will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 3, at 9 AM, at St. Hedwig Cemetery, 23755 Military Rd., Dearborn Heights. All are invited to gather at the gravesite.

In honor of Shirley's life, memorial tributes may be directed to the Fr. Solanus Casey Center.

Godspeed, Shirley. Your love, faith, and legacy will live on in all of us.
