Sheila Rudzki
Fox
Jul 21, 1939 — Apr 30, 2026
Pickney
Sheila Rudzki Fox, affectionately known as "Mimi" by her grandchildren and "Buttie" by her family, passed away on April 30, 2026, surrounded by love and family, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, education, and lifelong service to others.
Sheila was born on July 21, 1939, in Auburn, New York, the daughter of the late Dalton and Sylvia (Wheeler) Fox.
She dedicated her life to education and social service. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Detroit, a Master's degree in Education from the University of Michigan, and a Master's degree in Social Work from Wayne State University. Her education reflected a lifelong commitment to understanding people and helping them through difficult circumstances.
She began her career as an elementary school teacher, where she focused on structure, patience, and support for her students. She later worked as a social worker with Macomb County Community Mental Health, where she supported individuals and families facing significant challenges. Her work was steady and practical, centered on showing up when it mattered most.
In her personal life Sheila loved water and enjoyed swimming and being a lifeguard. She learned to sail when she was younger and enjoyed kayaking in her '70s, continuing to enjoy time on the water well into later years. She remained actively involved in her family's life, especially with her grandchildren, and played a meaningful role in helping raise them.
She had a way of building small traditions that became lasting family memories—Guinness beer, Starbucks coffee runs, stale Easter Peeps that were a big treat, and Christmas panettone cake. These were simple pleasures, but they became part of how she stayed connected to the people she loved.
She is survived by her four children, Kristin (John) Dettmers, Dane Travis, Marie (Shaun) Huszarik, and Carrie Rudzki; her grandchildren, Cameron (Rachel) Bruneau, Anna Fox, Noah Bruneau, Donovan Cason, Wesley Huszarik, and Sylvia Huszarik; her great-grandchild, Joseph Bruneau; and brothers, Donald Fox and Timothy Fox. She was preceded in death by her father Dalton, mother Sylvia, and grandson, Oliver Fox Powell.
Sheila lived a full and steady life centered on her family, grandchildren, her work, and those to whom she was close. Through her teaching, her social work, and her presence in her family's life, she leaves behind a lasting impact—one reflected in the strength, resilience, and care carried forward by the next generation.
Please keep Sheila and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Medical Missionaries of Mary are welcomed.
