Sheena Marie
Peterlin
Aug 7, 1986 — May 13, 2026
Sheena Marie Peterlin, of Farmington, formerly of Escanaba, our beloved wife, mom, daughter, sister and friend, passed into eternal life on Wednesday afternoon, May 13, 2026, at Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor. She was 39 years old.
Sheena was born August 7, 1986, in Escanaba, Michigan, to Marvin and Robin (Dart) Sebeck. She grew up in the Upper Peninsula, where she attended Washington Elementary and Webster Elementary schools before continuing on to Escanaba Area High School. As a young girl and student, Sheena played clarinet in the school band and enjoyed being part of school life, spirit weeks, and following the local athletic teams. Though often reserved by nature, those who knew her well saw a different side of her — warm, spirited, funny, loyal, and willing to put herself out there when she was with the people she loved.
At the age of seven, Sheena was diagnosed with a rare genetic liver condition which affected her body's ability to process the byproducts of protein digestion. It was something she lived with throughout her life, and though it brought many challenges, Sheena faced them with remarkable strength. She endured more medical difficulty than most could imagine, yet she did so with quiet courage and very little complaint. Her husband, Aaron, described her as one of the strongest people he had ever known — a true warrior.
Sheena and Aaron's love story began on New Year's Eve in 2004, with their first date at a Mexican restaurant in Escanaba. What began as an unexpected connection quickly grew into a deep and lasting love. Aaron asked Sheena to marry him in October of 2006, and they were married on October 27, 2007, at Memorial United Methodist Church in Gladstone, Michigan. The ceremony was especially meaningful because Aaron's father, Reverend Peterlin, officiated their wedding and also baptized Sheena, moments that remained deeply important to their family.
Together, Sheena and Aaron built a life rooted in love, trust, and devotion. In 2013, with their young daughter Anne between them in a car seat, they packed their belongings into a U-Haul and took a leap of faith, leaving the Upper Peninsula and moving to Farmington. It was a decision that required courage, trust, and sacrifice. Aaron sold his truck, motorcycle, home, and cashed in his retirement savings, and Sheena stood beside him completely. When Aaron wondered aloud whether the risk was too great, Sheena looked at him and simply said, "Wherever you go, I'll go."
But Sheena did more than offer words of support. She invested everything she had financially as well, joining Aaron in putting all they had into the family business. Together, they became owners with Aaron's brother and his life partner, Zach and Kim, building their future not only with hope and determination, but with real sacrifice and shared commitment. While Sheena's daily focus became caring for their daughters and home, her part in that leap of faith was essential. She was not simply supporting Aaron's dream — she was helping build their family's future.
As a mother, Sheena gave herself completely. She homeschooled Anne, challenged with autism, and taught her to read, write, and learn basic math, patiently helping her grow and develop in the ways she needed most. She was especially protective of Anne and worked tirelessly to give her a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. She loved Isabella just as fiercely, with a mother's pride, tenderness, and watchful care. Sheena's daughters were her purpose, her joy, and the greatest expression of her love.
Those who knew Sheena will remember her as reserved in some moments and fiery in others. When she believed in something, she believed in it fully. When she loved someone, she loved without hesitation. She had conviction, loyalty, and a protective spirit that made those closest to her feel deeply cherished. Sheena did not need to be the loudest person in the room to leave a lasting impression. Her strength, devotion, and love spoke clearly through the way she lived.
In early 2026, Sheena was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer, a diagnosis made especially complicated by her rare genetic condition. She endured treatment, hospitalizations, and uncertainty with extraordinary courage. Even as her illness progressed, Sheena continued to fight. She formed meaningful connections with the nurses and caregivers who treated her, and her strength left an impression on all who witnessed it. Through everything, Aaron fought tirelessly beside her, seeking every possible avenue for treatment and care. Their love, loyalty, and determination throughout that difficult journey reflected the bond they shared.
Sheena's life was far too brief, but it was filled with love, courage, devotion, and quiet heroism. She leaves behind the example of a woman who followed love wherever it led, who protected her family with all her heart, and who faced life's hardest challenges with a strength that will never be forgotten.
Sheena is survived by her beloved husband of 18 years, Aaron; her deeply loved daughters, Anne and Isabella; cherished parents, Marvin and Robin; loving siblings, Holly (Eric) Bosanic, Jake (Alisha Douglas) Sebeck, Dillon (Ryleigh McDonough) Sebeck, and Kylie Sebeck; her devoted brother-in-lawn, Zach (Anne Folian-Skinner) Peterlin, as well as many friends and family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Family and friends may gather at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in downtown Farmington for visitation and funeral ceremony on Thursday afternoon, May 21st. Visiting hours are scheduled for 12 noon - 5pm, and her funeral ceremony will commence at 2:30 pm.
Sheena's legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply, in the courage she showed every day, and in the words that so beautifully defined her life with Aaron: "Wherever you go, I'll go."
