Obituary

Sharon McAskin, born on May 1, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was the ultimate mom, known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and self-sacrifice, always putting her family first and sharing in their joys and challenges.  Sharon was small in stature but large in character.  She was the definition of grace.

On July 27, 1957, Sharon married the love of her life, Barry McAskin. For over 50 years they shared a passion for music and dancing, and their graceful moves on the dance floor continued throughout their lives. Sharon lovingly cared for Barry until his passing in 2009, demonstrating her unwavering devotion to her family.

Sharon's legacy is her deep love for her family, which she valued above all else.  Family gatherings were the highlight of Sharon's life, from annual trips to Evergreen with her children, to trips to Mexico with her grandchildren, to just grabbing a bite to eat with anyone that was available.  Sharon's sense of humor was ever-present and she loved to laugh and loved hearing her family's laughter.

Sharon is survived by her loving children, Sheryl (Ken) Law, Chris (Jennifer) McAskin, Michelle (David) Kowalske, and Colleen (Randy) Punshon; adored grandchildren, David (Mandy), Alex, Devin (Selena), Zoe (Mikey), Jacob (Mackenzie), and Sam; beloved great-grandchildren, Lola, Levi, Jack, Henry, Lyla, Jamieson, and Sawyer; and loved brother, Phil (Rose) Donovan.

Sharon was preceded in death by her loving husband, Barry McAskin (D. 2009); dear siblings, Jim (Carol) Donovan, John (Anne) Donovan, and Margaret Broder
