Sara Bahling, "Sally", age 81, of Farmington Hills, passed away Thursday, September 19, peacefully at Angela Hospice Care Center in Livonia.
Sally was born in Detroit, MI, in August 1943, the daughter of the late Rosemary and Donald Hickman.
Sally grew up in a large and close-knit family in Waterford. She married her high school sweetheart, "Ron" (Roger), and together they welcomed their first son Michael in 1964, before moving to Pittsburgh. The family grew again in 1967 adding "Robin" (Mathew). The family purchased a house in the Sunny Hill neighborhood of Moon Twp where they met and maintained many lifelong friendships. After Ron's untimely passing in 1972, Sally remained in Pennsylvania, raising her two sons with love and resilience until their return to Michigan in 1980.
Sally dedicated her career to nursing, working at Pontiac General Hospital until its closure in 2010. She was known for her compassionate care and unwavering commitment to her patients.
In her free time, Sally enjoyed gardening, antiquing, and being surrounded by her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy. She was an avid reader and loved playing cards with friends and family, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
Sally is the loving mother of Michael Bahling (Christine) and Robin Bahling (Melissa); beloved grandmother of Bryan (Brynn), David, Alexandra (Guillermo), Nathan, Katherine (Athan) and Lindsay and great grandmother of Eloise; dearest sister of Mary Angelotti (Ed) and Timothy Hickman (Vicki). Sadly, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, stepmother, Pauline Hickman and siblings, Jeremy Hickman (Marva) and Julia Mantyla. Sally is also preceded by her loving in-laws Clara and Arnold Bahling whom she maintained a life-long relationship with following her husband's passing. She is also preceded in death by her dear sister-in-law Wanda (Garry).
A memorial service celebrating her life will be Saturday, September 28, 11 am at the funeral home, guests may begin arriving to the funeral home at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Alzheimer's Association of America in her name.
