Sandra R.
Davis
Aug 4, 1939 — Feb 4, 2025
Farmington
Sandra Ray Davis passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025 at Trinity Health Livonia hospital of complications resulting from her severe dementia. She was born on August 4, 1939 in Dorchester, MA and was the beloved wife of Thomas Davis for 60 years, devoted mother of Melissa Olszewski (Chris) and Jeffrey Davis (deceased), cherished sister of Nancy Lore (Kenneth – deceased), and adored grandmother of Peter & Cameron Olszewski.
When she was nine, Sandy's family moved to Winthrop, MA where she had a wonderful life during her teens and early adulthood. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1957, worked as an administrative aide at Stone & Webster Engineering Services and Northeast Airlines (at Boston Logan Airport) for the next few years. In August 1964 she married Tom, a Commissioned Navy Officer at that time, and they lived in Newport, RI until his tour of active duty ended in November,1965. They then moved to Michigan where he started a career with Ford Motor Company, and they have lived in the Farmington, MI area for 59 years.
When Melissa was born in1970, Sandy exited the job market to be a full time mother. When Jeff was born in 1972 with Down Syndrome, she undertook the many responsibilities that come with having a disabled child. Sandy was focused on giving Jeff every opportunity for a successful and fulfilling life.
Sandy and her family have been members of Nardin Park Methodist Church for the past 54 years. She was involved in many activities such as the bell choir and preparing for & working at the annual church rummage sales. She and Tom were among the original members of the church social group, "Double Ring", and have been members since it's founding in 1972 until now. She made many lifelong friends in this group & it has been a large part of her life. She also enjoyed being part of a inter-denominational neighborhood bible study group.
She loved volunteering at the Cancer Society resale shops in Farmington and Livonia, was a member of the Farmington Glen Aquatic Club where she made many friends, and was a member of clogging, hula, and line dancing groups. Sandy was an avid reader, reading 4+ books a week. She enjoyed a 10 year winter residence at The Villages in Florida and loved the Michigan summers.
Diagnosed with dementia in 2017, it became more difficult to care for her in her own home. In July, 2024 she was admitted to Mayfield Assisted Living & Care in Livonia where she thrived for the first two months before complications from dementia led to her death 4 months later.
For a celebration of her life, the location, date, and time has yet to be determined. Burial will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA, where she will join her parents, Gertrude & Warren MacDonald, and her son Jeff in their family plots.
