Samantha Grace
Olekszy
Jun 10, 1997 — Sep 10, 2023
Walled Lake
In Loving Memory of Samantha Grace Olekszy
June 10, 1997 – September 10th, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely death of Samantha Grace Olekszy, a vibrant soul who touched the lives of all who knew her. She was just 26 years old when she left us, leaving a void that can never be filled.
Born on June 10, 1997, Samantha was a beacon of light. She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and so much more. Her zest for life was infectious, and her radiant smile could brighten even the darkest of days.
From dance classes at an early age, to years on the softball field in middle school, to making the girl's golf team and finding a sport where she found great joy and success in high school, Sam did a little bit of everything. She was an athlete, worked a restaurant job, prioritized family time, and achieved academic success, graduating from Walled Lake Western in 2015, and then from Michigan State University, earning a degree in Hotel Restaurant Management in 2021. She had a passion for Event Planning, and had dreams of pursuing a career in this field of work.
Beyond academic achievements, Sam was a true lover of life. She had a lively, independent spirit that was supported by her parents and family. She traveled after graduating high school to many European countries and Australia. At age 18, she packed a suitcase and went on the trip of a lifetime, much to the envy of her cousins, aunts and uncles. There was no stopping her. She set goals, had dreams, and made them happen! She planned out every single detail, and researched every destination months in advance. Her entire family knew that there was no limit to her pursuit of traveling the world, and we cheered her on from afar, welcoming her home upon each return to the States, excited to hear about her adventures!
The most treasured aspect of Sam's life was the fact that she was surrounded by a large, loving family, including dozens of cousins, aunts and uncles. She was one of 3 children in her immediate family, but one of many in her extended family. Her aunts and uncles would tell you she was like their own child, and to her cousins, she was another "sister". She had an enthusiasm for new experiences, and a personality that was undeniably contagious. Her confidence beamed, her smile was beautiful, and her "take control" attitude moved things along, as was evident in cousin plays, sing-alongs, and weekend pajama parties. She was often the party planner, and helped create life long memories for several family events. She will be greatly missed by all. We can't imagine a family get-together without Sam. She often made the party come alive.
Samantha leaves behind her loving parents, James Michael Olekszy, and Heidi Marie (Greg) West; her dear siblings, Celia and McLane; beloved grandparents, Ms. Donna Olekszy, Mr. John Olekszy, and Jean Olekszy. She was preceded in death by her loving grandparents, William and Eve Ann Dillon. Her loss is deeply felt by her numerous family members, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends may gather at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, for visitation on Friday, September 15th, from 4-8pm.
Samantha's memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10 am (visitation at 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Rd., Farmington.
As we say our final farewell to Samantha, let us remember her for the beautiful soul she was. She would be the very first to tell us to hold closely the ones we love, and trust that God will carry us through the difficult days ahead.
"Though I walk into the valley of darkness, I fear no evil, for you are with me" Psalm 23:4.
