Obituary

Robert W. Hawkes, age 93, of Farmington Hills, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills.

Robert was born on August 6, 1928, in Stoneham, Massachusetts, the son of the late Wesley and Grace (Leavitt) Hawkes.

He was the loving father of John (Debra) Hawkes; beloved grandfather of Matthew Oneski, Nathan Oneski, and Emily (Andrew) Hawkes-Lewis; and brother of Judith Grocott. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his dearest daughter, Catherine Hawkes.

Robert worked much of his career at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn as an engineer.  He helped design a wind tunnel in Lake Havasu City, Arizona that was built to test cars under adverse conditions.  Robert was an avid sailor and one time fleet captain with the Greater Detroit Sunfish Club, a group that was known for racing sailboats at Stoney Creek, Metro Beach, Kensington Metro Park and on Lake Erie. He really enjoyed photography and kept thousands of photos of his work. He was also a member of the bicycle group, P.A.L.M (Pedal Across Lower Michigan). Robert had an appreciation for technology and owned an I-pad, I-phone, I-watch, and operated these devices like a true guru.

A memorial service honoring Robert's life will be celebrated August 6, at noon, with a visitation from 11 am-12 pm, at the Beaumont Commons, 21300 Archwood Cir, Farmington Hills, in the Tarpinian Room.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association.

Kindly keep the Hawkes family in your prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.
