Obituary

Robert (Bob) Earl Bliss, 70, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 25, 2025, just two days shy of his 71st birthday. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 27, 1954, to the late Earl and Dorothy Bliss, Bob lived a life marked by dedication, humor, and unwavering love for his family and community.

Bob's fulfilling career was a reflection of his steadfast work ethic and commitment to service. Following in his father's footsteps he proudly served as a police officer at Oakland Community College for 10 years.  Afterwards went on to a second career as a Building Official for the City of Farmington Hills, Michigan, while owning a home improvement business. In retirement, he and Becky moved to Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, where he found great fulfillment working as a Building Inspector for the City of Mount Sterling. His knowledge and integrity left a lasting impact on his colleagues and community alike.

A man of many talents, Bob was always the go-to source for advice whether you needed help fixing a car, advice about parenting, or tackling a home repair project. He was a natural teacher, eager to share what he knew, and always with a touch of humor. His interests included building, camping, fishing, and firearms. He was a proud gun enthusiast, collector of firearms and certified shooting instructor, passionate about safety and responsibility.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, and best friend, of 28 years, Becky Bliss. Their story began during their time employed at Oakland Community College together. Bob was blessed with two beautiful daughters Michelle (James) Sullivan and Stephanie Bliss, and together Bob and Becky cherished their role as grandparents to Gavin, Garrett, Gage, Ava, and Jack and great grandparent to Leo and Victoria. Bob was preceded in death by his precious granddaughter April and dear nephew Wesley, both of whom he held close in his heart.  Bob was also a devoted brother to John (Nancy) Bliss and Karen Papacharalambous, and a loving uncle to Nick, Katie, Robert, Megan, and Sarah.  Bob is also survived by his family by marriage; Mother-in-law, Claudette Taylor, Brother-in-laws, Randy and Jason (Katie) Taylor and nieces, Bella and Abby.

His family, both human and furry, including his beloved dogs Kody and Brandy, meant everything to him.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 1, from 12- 6 pm, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Monday, June 2, at 10 am, also, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home.
