Obituary

Robert W. Burnside, age 87, of Livonia, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Bob was born and raised in Flint, MI, July 9, 1935, to the late Alec and Mary (Bell) Burnside. In 1964 he would meet the love of his life, Gerda, while teaching.

Bob was a member of the Schoolcraft College campus community (admissions counselor) from 1967 until his retirement on January 1, 1997. He was an outstanding representative of the College at area high schools, on a first name basis with all District high school.

Bob had major responsibility in organizing College Night and Career Day programs. He was also instrumental in establishing a TAG (Talented & Gifted) program at the College in 1975. In his own words, "The TAG program eventually developed into 'The Kids on Campus Program' and is still going strong to this very day."

Bob was known for always having a smile on his face, a caring heart, always being kind to others, hardworking, and putting his family first. He loved skiing, golfing, and tennis. He always looked forward to spending Wintertime with Gerda in their Sun Lake, Arizona residence.

Surviving Bob are his beloved wife of 57 years, Gerda; dearest son, Mark (Amy) Burnside of Chandler, Arizona; loved grandchildren, Megan Burnside and Peyton Burnside; brother, William Burnside; and nephew, Charles Burnside. Sadly, Bob was preceded in death by his dear son, Craig Burnside; and sister-in-law, Patricia Burnside.

A celebration of Bob's life will take place on Saturday, December 3rd.  The celebration of life will be private and by invitation only.

Memorial tributes are suggested to Schoolcraft College , 18600 Haggerty Rd, Livonia, MI 48152.
