Obituary

Rita Mary Weglarz passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 19th at the age of 90.

Rita was born on January 16, 1935, in Detroit.  She was adopted in 1936 by Al and Florence Zweng from the Sarah Fisher Home in Farmington Hills.  She was the second oldest of her 4 siblings.  She grew up in Lincoln Park, went to St. Francis Xavier High School and married her high school sweetheart, Richard (Dick) in 1955.  She worked as a book keeper for Hudson's downtown before they settled in Farmington Hills in 1963 to raise three children – Richard Joseph (wife Colleen), Paul Gerard (wife Coleen), and Darice Marie (husband Rich).  Besides her three children, Rita is survived by three grandchildren that she loved very much – Jack (21), Lulu (19), and Owen (17).

Rita was known best for her hard work ethic and remained very active through her 70's.  It seemed near impossible to slow her down.  We all wished we could figure out how to bottle her strength and stamina.  Unfortunately, dementia crept in for her later years.  Rita truly loved being outside in the fresh air, whether it was for a walk with the neighbor ladies or to cut down a tree or two.  Yard work was her thing and leaves and weeds were her natural enemies.  Rita ran a tight ship and kept us all on our toes.  We called her 'The Shark' growing up because we knew she couldn't survive if she stopped moving.  Rita fed us well and ensured our food safety by burning most things.  To this day, Rita's burnt meatloaf is a favorite.  Rita was always willing to help out with any project or request, especially if you were rewarding her with sweets.  She had one heck of a sweet tooth and her smile meant the world to us.  She was a clever lady and underestimated by many.

Rita loved her family, religion, patriotism, desserts and the outdoors…probably not in that order though.  She will be missed by those that knew and loved her.  We hope that she found Dad up there and they are enjoying a good dance.  May they forever rest in peace.

Services will be held at Henney-Sundquist in downtown Farmington on Wednesday, March 26th.  Visitation will be 9-10:00am followed by a funeral service beginning at 10 am.

Rita will be buried with Richard at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Rita's name.
