Raymond Ashe,
Jr.
Sep 15, 1947 — Oct 5, 2024
Raymond "Ray" Ashe, Jr. of Westland, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed into eternal life on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on September 15, 1947, in Highland Park, Ray was the son of the late Raymond Sr. and Lorraine (Scavarda) Ashe. He attended Precious Blood Grade School and graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School in 1965, then attended Detroit College of Business. Ray built a life characterized by hard work, loyalty, and love for his family.
Ray was a man of remarkable work ethic and dedication. His intelligence and fun-loving nature made him the best father and grandfather, always seeking out adventures and making memories with his loved ones. Mackinac Island and other Michigan destinations held special places in his heart, but one of his most cherished experiences was a trip to Arkansas with two of his grandsons when his daughter, Betsy lived there for a couple of years.
Ray's devotion to his family was unwavering. He was always there for his children and grandchildren, never wanting to be far away in case they needed him for anything. Whether attending swim meets, baseball games, or dance recitals, Ray was the constant, supportive presence cheering them on. His love for sports, particularly the Detroit Tigers, was infectious. He had been a talented ball player in his youth and carried that passion for the game throughout his life.
Ray loved riding his bike and was known for his accepting nature. He was always encouraging, supportive, and devoted to those he loved.
Ray was the beloved father of Michelle (Steve) Sadler, the late Elizabeth "Betsy" (Dorian) Scott, and step-father to Mark Johns, the late Timothy (Anna) Johns and Doug (Amy) Johns; cherished grandfather of Sarah (Tyler) Jankowiak, John "Mikey" (fiancée Megan Grasela) Stover, Noah Janeczko, Stephen Sadler Jr., and Elijah, Doriann, Lailah and Donovan Scott; great-grandfather of Jonah and Elsie Jankowiak, and Joseph and Jackson Stover; loving brother of Lorry (Jerry) Kempf, Peter Ashe, Gerard (Fran) Ashe, and John Ashe; dear uncle to many nieces and nephews, and devoted former-husband to the late Sarah Richardson.
Ray's funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning, October 15, at 11:30 am (in state 11:00 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Road, Farmington. View a livestream of Ray's funeral mass by clicking HERE.
