Pauline L.
Wakefield
Jun 7, 1943 — Jan 21, 2025
Pauline Wakefield, 81, of Southfield, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed into eternal life on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital. She was a truly sweet and selfless soul who devoted her life to her family. She was the epitome of love, warmth, and generosity, always putting others before herself.
Pauline was born June 7, 1943, in Detroit, to the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Garrie) Jaber. She married Gerald W. Wakefield, Sr., on May 21, 1971, at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Farmington Hills. Pauline's love for her husband, Jerry, was unwavering, and their bond was a testament to her deep capacity for love. She would do anything for anyone, and her selflessness and kindness made her a friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Whether it was playing cards, enjoying a good laugh, or simply being there for others, Pauline's presence was a gift to those around her.
Pauline's world revolved around her two sons, Jerry and Jason, as well as her adored grandchildren. She was a true family matriarch, guiding her family with compassion and wisdom. Her heart was always at the center of the family, and her devotion to her children and grandchildren knew no bounds. Her granddaughter, Samantha, held a special place in her heart, especially when they would joyfully assemble the Christmas tree together, creating memories that will last forever.
In addition to her family, Pauline had many passions that brought her joy. She looked forward to her weekly trips to the Farmington Farmer's Market every Saturday, relishing in the vibrant atmosphere and fresh finds. She also loved spending time in her yard, tending to her flowers with care and creating a peaceful space of which she was very proud. She had a special fondness for her casino trips and enjoyed the excitement of playing cards, especially poker and euchre, with her sisters and friends during the famed "quarter poker nights."
Pauline worked at Holiday Chevrolet in Farmington Hills as a cashier from 1992 to the early 2000s. Her independent spirit was evident in every aspect of her life, and she approached each day with joy and determination. True to her playful nature, Pauline was known to joke that she was always "39," a reminder of her youthful heart and contagious sense of humor.
Family reunions were another highlight of Pauline's life, where she cherished the company of those she loved most. Her warmth, kindness, and laughter will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Surviving are her devoted husband of 53 years, Jerry; devoted sons, Jerry Jr. (Maureen) and Jason (Laura); cherished grandchildren, Jonathan (fiancée Erica Cox), Samantha, Jacob and Owen Wakefield, and Kate (fiancé Tim McMullen), Sarah, Julia and Justin Estepp; her former daughter-in-law, Krista Sachs-Wakefield; siblings, Frances Kennady, Margaret Jaber, Barbara (Dan) Kuzniar, and Judy Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Pauline was also preceded in death by her brother, Garrie Jaber.
The Wakefield family will receive guests Sunday, January 26, 2-8 pm at the funeral home.
A funeral service celebrating Paulines life will be held Monday, January 27, 11 am, at the funeral home.
Immediately following the service, a funeral procession will take Pauline to her final resting place, Glen Eden Memorial Park. Everyone is invited to join her family in the procession.
