Redford Twp
Paul J. Whiting, a beloved member of the Redford Township community, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2024, at the age of 87.
Paul was born in Detroit, MI, November 26, 1936, the son of the late Katheryn and Robert Whiting.
After moving to Redford Township in 1960, Paul devoted himself to raising his two sons, Paul Jr. and Gary, instilling in them the values of integrity, perseverance, and compassion. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family, always there to lend a helping hand or offer words of wisdom.
Paul had many passions throughout his life. From woodworking to racing outboard boats across the waters of Michigan, he approached every endeavor with enthusiasm and determination. Later in life, he found great fulfillment in helping people solve problems, whether it was fixing electronics or troubleshooting automotive issues that had stumped others.
Paul's professional career was equally distinguished. He dedicated over three decades of service to the Michigan Bell Telephone Company, which later became AT&T. His commitment to his work and his colleagues earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Beyond his professional achievements and personal interests, Paul will be remembered most for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. His legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Lucinda "Cindy". He is the loving father of Paul Jr (Terri) and Gary (Mary); beloved grandfather of Paul III (Kiersten), Michael (Ashley), Timothy (Lauren), Bettie Smith (Ryan) and Robert (fiancée Zee Berjaoui); cherished great grandfather of Paul IV, Ashton, Noah, Andrew, Elizabeth, Ana, Evan, Hudson and Henley; dearest brother of the late Hugh R. Whiting.
The Whiting family will receive friends Thursday, June 20, 11 am-1 pm at the funeral home, where a funeral service honoring his life will begin at 1 pm.
Immediately following his service he will be taken to his final resting place, Oakland Hills Memorial Park, Novi, to be next to Cindy. Everyone is invited to meet just inside the front gates of the cemetery at 3pm, a short procession will take everyone to the grave.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
Please keep the Whiting family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
