Norman, age 95, passed away on May 26, 2022. He was the beloved husband for 63 years of Reatha Jackson, who predeceased him on May 20, 2016, and cherished father of Deborah (Charlie) Jackson Lum, William (Joyce) Jackson, Terry (Ed) Leib, and Kim (Jeff) Cognato. Norman was the proud grandfather of Aaron (Lena) Jackson, Gina (Cliff) Bookman, Amy (Rob Loss) Jackson, Greg (Laura) Leib, Scott (Ingrid) Cognato, David (Malay Mathur) Leib, Steve (Elizabeth) Leib, Mike Lum, Rachel Lum, and Alison Lum. Norman also cherished his 10 great grandchildren. Norman was preceded in death by his parents William and Grace Jackson, and sisters Marion Dodd and Carol Ports.
Norman grew up in Alliance, Ohio, and joined the Air Force upon graduation from High School. After 2 years, he was honorably discharged and then studied at Case University. In 1952, Norman graduated with a degree in Automotive Engineering and joined Standard Products Company, first working in Gaylord, MI, where he met and married the love of his life, Reatha Darby, on August 14, 1953. After enjoying his home and friends in Livonia for 45 years, Norman moved to Waltonwood Twelve Oaks, Novi, in 2015 where he enjoyed his beautiful apartment and community of friends and activities.
Faith and family were of highest importance to Norman. He was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, and a devout Christian who participated in the life of Ward Presbyterian Church as an ordained Elder, member of Bible study groups, Sunday morning greeter, and regular worship attendee for over 50 years. Norman delighted in camping with his family and traveling with his wife throughout the U.S. and internationally, especially when travels included visits to family members or national parks. Norman was an accomplished woodworker and also enjoyed sailing, golfing and time with family and friends.
