Nancy Ruth
Voigt
Jun 16, 1957 — Mar 10, 2025
Nancy Voigt, of Farmington Hills, passed away on Monday evening, March 10, 2025, at Corewell Health Hospital in Farmington Hills. She was 67 years old, and her passing followed a very brief and courageous battle with cancer, which was diagnosed in January of this year.
Nancy was born on June 16, 1957, in Detroit, to Lois M. (McNamara) Rose and the late Robert C. Rose, Sr. She married Robert A. Voigt on August 20, 1982, at the Old Saint Mary's Catholic Church in the Greektown neighborhood of Detroit.
Nancy was a 1975 graduate of Grosse Pointe South High School, and she later earned her master's degree from the University of Michigan in the early 1980s. She dedicated much of her life to her passion for reading and sharing that love with others. As a children's librarian, Nancy touched countless lives at public libraries in Livonia, Canton, and Wayne, and fostered a love of reading in her students at Einstein Elementary in Oak Park. After many years of librarianship, Nancy retired from the Wayne Public Library in 2019 to begin her life as a woman of leisure.
Nancy was a warm, loving, and vibrant woman who had a zest for life. She loved to travel, with favorite destinations including northern Michigan and Florida. A true lover of the glamping lifestyle, Nancy enjoyed RV camping and spending time on her back deck in the sunshine, usually with a glass of wine in hand. Her love for wineries and wine tasting became a cherished part of their travels.
Above all, one of Nancy's greatest joys came from being a grandmother to her beloved grandson, Alex, who was the light of her life. Moreover, she was immensely proud of her two daughters, Kelly and Allie, both of whom followed in her footsteps to become teachers—a testament to her love and dedication to public education.
Nancy had a true gift for making others feel at home. Her welcoming spirit, kindness, and generosity were felt by all who knew her. She had a knack for storytelling and loved to share her pride in her family, especially of her daughters and grandson. Nancy also made sure her home was a second home to anyone who needed it, including all of Kelly and Allie's friends, who were always encouraged to make themselves comfortable. She loved entertaining, hosting family gatherings, and, most notably, enjoying the Sunday family dinners that brought her loved ones together.
Nancy's commitment to her community was unwavering. She was a tireless volunteer, giving particular support to the Farmington High School music department. Over the course of eight years, Nancy helped coordinate numerous fund-raising efforts including Tag Days and bottle & can drives. She also regularly volunteered as a parent chaperone at the summer band camps.
A lover of music, Nancy had a special fondness for Frank Sinatra, 70s classics, and the timeless songs that filled her home with warmth. Road trips up north always turned into Simon & Garfunkel sing-alongs. She also enjoyed relaxing with family, adored watching Jeopardy and Hallmark rom-coms, and sharing those moments of joy with those closest to her.
Nancy's memory will live on through her loving husband, daughters, grandson, sisters and brother, mother, and many friends. She will be remembered for her boundless love, her giving heart, and her unwavering commitment to her family and community. Her passing leaves a hole in the hearts of those who knew her, but her legacy of kindness, love, and laughter will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to be touched by her spirit.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Rob; devoted daughters, Kelly (David Galido) Voigt and Allison (Shane Jesiel) Voigt Jesiel; her loving mother, Lois Rose; cherished grandson, Alexander Jesiel; siblings, Ann (Jim) White, Patty (Keith) Yaden, and Robert Rose, Jr., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and former colleagues.
Friends and family may gather for visitation at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon, March 15, from 3-6 pm, and again on Sunday afternoon, March 16, from 1-4 pm. A ceremony honoring Nancy's life is planned for Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm. Immediately following the visitation on Sunday, there will be a celebration of life gathering at nearby Peterlin's restaurant. Dinner and drinks will be enjoyed and all family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to further honor Nancy's life are invited to consider a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
May Nancy rest in peace, her light forever shining in the hearts of all who loved her.
