Michael Newton Thomas, born on March 10, 1991, in Royal Oak, Michigan, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and musical brilliance. He was a devoted husband to Kimberly Kelly, whom he married in a beautiful ceremony in Max Patch, North Carolina. Together, they raised their beloved daughter, Margot, and foster son, Jaxson, forming deep and cherished bonds with both children. Michael shared countless joyful hours playing music and games with Margot and Jaxson, creating special memories that will be treasured forever.
Michael was a man who always expressed his love, ending each day with a goodnight kiss for his family, regardless of any disagreements. His heart was open to everyone, extending kindness and generosity to neighbors and strangers alike. Whether helping someone move or offering a listening ear, Michael was always there to support those in need.
His loyalty was unwavering, and his musical talent was extraordinary. Michael was a brilliant musician, excelling in drums and many other instruments. He was particularly renowned for his exceptional skill as a drummer, captivating audiences with his performances. Michael influence extended into the realm of electronic music, where he combined traditional and modern sounds to create unique compositions. During his time at Farmington High School, he showcased his skills on the national drumline and later joined the band "Jams w Dave," where he continued to share his passion for music. Michael's contributions to the band and the broader music community were significant and enduring.
Beyond his musical endeavors, Michael was a true outdoorsman. He found immense joy in camping and exploring the natural world. Whether it was hiking through dense forests, setting up camp by a serene lake, or simply gazing at the stars, Michael cherished the beauty and tranquility of the outdoors. His love for nature was a fundamental part of who he was, and he shared this passion with his family, creating unforgettable adventures together.
Michael's hard-working and playful nature, combined with his brilliance, made him an exceptional father and role model. He pursued his studies in stage technology at Wayne State University, merging his love for music and technical expertise. He also enjoyed savoring the delicious meals his wife prepared, with her Lamb Loin Chops being his absolute favorite, a testament to the loving and shared moments they cherished.
Michael's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His kindness, generosity, musical legacy, and love for the outdoors will be remembered and celebrated by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Every night, Michael would say, "Love you, Margot. Love you, Mama." With a heartfelt goodbye and unwavering love, let's not say goodbye this time but until we meet again.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly Thomas; adored children, Margot and Jaxson; loving parents, Mike and Rosanne Thomas; dear sister, Jade Thomas; and many dear friends and musicians.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Nancy Thomas; Newton and Marilou Phillips; and uncle, Robert Thomas.
Family and friends may gather at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, on Friday, August 2, from 2- 8 pm.
Michael's funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3 (in state/visitation at 10 am), at Hope Lutheran Church, 39200 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Michael's daughter Margot's college fund.
