Michael F.
Rashid, Sr.
Feb 24, 1956 — Apr 3, 2026
Michael, of South Lyon, a deeply beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit. He was 70 years old. A man known for his enormous heart, unwavering generosity, and deep love for his family, Michael leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, and quiet devotion to the people he loved most.
Born in Detroit on February 24, 1956, to the late Franklin and Betty (Carmichael) Rashid, Michael was raised with a strong work ethic and a generous spirit that would define his entire life. He attended Bulman Elementary in Redford and 10 Mile Elementary in Farmington Hills before graduating from Farmington High School in 1974.
Not long after high school, Michael began working with his uncle in the garage door business. In 1977, with determination and vision, he established Rashid Garage Doors, Inc., his own business at Orchard Lake and Freedom Roads in Farmington Hills. He remained dedicated to that work for decades, pouring himself into the business he built and taking great pride in all he had accomplished through hard work and perseverance.
Michael was the kind of man who would do anything for anyone. His family described him as the kindest and most generous person you could ever meet — a huge-hearted man who loved deeply and gave freely, not only to those closest to him, but to anyone in need. Even when others may have taken advantage of his goodness, it never changed who he was. His noble spirit, steady kindness, and willingness to help never wavered.
Above all else, Michael loved his family. The greatest joy of his life was being surrounded by those he loved. Holidays were especially meaningful to him, but he never needed a special occasion to gather everyone together. He was happiest saying, "Come on over," whether for Sunday gathering, time together at home, or simply to enjoy one another's company. Those everyday moments of togetherness became some of the most treasured memories for the family he cherished so dearly.
Michael also enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved his home and took special joy in the horses he kept on his property, content simply watching them from his back door. He enjoyed visiting casinos, and though he did not travel often, he was always happy to make a trip when it involved a little gaming and a change of scenery. He also enjoyed riding his electric bike and living life in his own distinct way.
Michael remained devoted to his business until his health began to decline. After a visit to family in Florida in November, his health began to worsen, and in the last month took a serious turn that led to his hospitalization.
He will be remembered as a man of remarkable generosity, a devoted family man, and someone whose goodness never changed. His presence was steady, his heart was open, and his love for his family was the center of his life. He was, in every sense, one of the best.
Surviving Michael are his sisters, Jeanniae (Jim) Engstrom, Theresa (Bob) Rashid-Rudzik, and Jacqueline Rashid; nieces and nephews, Jimmy and Kristen (Jack) Dalton) Engstrom, Raymond Lee II, and Jayme and Riley Stiglich; his son, Michael Jr., as well as a host of customers and friends.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at the Henney-Sundquist Funeral Home in downtown Farmington on Wednesday, April 8th, from 4-8 pm. A time of remembrances is planned for 7:00 pm.
Michael's funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning, April 9, at 10:00 am (in state 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Road, Farmington.
