Our loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Michael Koonce, age 77, of Redford, passed away on December 25, 2023.

Michael was born on August 6, 1946, in Southfield, Michigan, the son of Betty Koonce and the late Herbert Koonce.

Michael, a captain on both sea and in life, navigated with love, charisma, and an indomitable spirit. His zest for life and genuine nature made him the guy who seemed to know everyone and had an abundance of friends.

As the owner of Thrifty Aluminum, Michael's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly. A hardworking man, he instilled the values of diligence and resilience in his boys. Despite his less-than-expert home improvement skills, he approached every project with enthusiasm, teaching valuable lessons along the way.

Michael's love for sailing and the Caribbean was a testament to his adventurous soul. Florida, a place of cherished family vacations, held a special spot in his heart. His catchphrase, "fine as wine, in the summertime," echoed his optimistic outlook, leaving an imprint on those who knew him.

Beyond the seas and business endeavors, Michael self-taught himself software programming, showcasing his passion for learning and drive to prove he could do something himself. As we bid farewell, may we remember him for the laughter, the love, and the unwavering enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of life!

Michael is survived by his loving sons, Justin (Kellie) Brindley-Koonce, Chad (Amy Jo) Koonce, and Ryan (Zoe) Koonce; 6 adored grandchildren; beloved mother, Betty Koonce; and sister, Cynthia Myles. Sadly, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Craig Koonce.

A memorial gathering will take place on Friday, December 29, 2023, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, 23720 Farmington Rd., Farmington, MI, with guests invited from 4pm – 7pm to honor Michael's life.
