Maureen Ann Scanlon, age 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.

Maureen was born December 27, 1930, in Detroit, the daughter of Jack and Julia (O'Mara) Johnson.  She graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in Education.

Maureen married Martin J. Scanlon on March 2, 1957, at St. Mary's of Redford Catholic Church.  Sadly, Martin preceded her in death on August 21, 2006.

Maureen is the loving mother of  Michael (Patricia), Daniel, James (Deanne), Jerome, the late Martin, Jr. (d. 2021), Julie (the late David, d. 2013), and Thomas (Kelly); cherished grandmother of Brigid (Matt) Towe, John (Lauren) Scanlon, Joe Scanlon, Bill (Haley) Scanlon, Meghan (Kristian) Mateus, Jack Scanlon, Matt Scanlon, Kaylyn (Ryan) Carrigan, Michael (Rachel) Scott, Tom Scott, Dan Scott, Tom Scanlon and Caroline Scanlon; great grandmother of Claire, Kate, Jane, Jack, Ireland, Jude, Owen, Layla and Rory; dear sister of the late Mary Lou Perrin and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

The Scanlon family will receive guests on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, 1-8 pm, with a 7 pm Rosary, at the funeral home.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, 10 am (in state 9:30 am) at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 W. Ten Mile Rd., Novi.

Interment will immediately follow the funeral mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.

Memorial tributes are suggested to the Fr. Solanus Casey Center or Detroit Catholic Central High School .
