Martin Leonard
Gantz
Jun 26, 1952 — Feb 1, 2026
Livonia
Martin Gantz, age 73, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Born in Rockford, Illinois, Martin later moved to the Livonia area in 1996, where he made his home for many years. In his earlier years, he was proud to serve as a Boy Scout troop leader in Rockford, sharing his time and guidance with young scouts.
Martin dedicated over 40 years of his career to the automotive parts industry as a CAD designer. His work and ingenuity led to receiving a patent in 1999 for a door hinge design, a professional accomplishment he was proud of.
Outside of work, Martin had many interests and passions. He enjoyed photography and had a deep love for radio-controlled airplanes, being an active member of RC aircraft clubs in both Rockford, Illinois, and Hamburg, Michigan. He was also an avid movie buff, amassing an extensive personal film collection.
Martin loved traveling and exploring different parts of the country. While he was unable to complete his goal of visiting all 50 states, he treasured the places he was able to see and the memories made along the way.
Above all, Martin deeply loved his family and valued the time spent with them and his close friends. He will be remembered for his dedication, creativity, and quiet devotion to those he loved, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Denise Gantz; his sons, Kevin (Dana) Gantz and Christopher (Virginia) Gantz; his brother, Don Gantz; and his cherished grandchildren, Mikyle (Sydney) Gantz, Landyn Gantz, Kaidyn Gantz, Ryland Gantz, Ryker Gantz, Luca Gantz, Prestyn Gantz, Ariana Gantz, Lincoln Gantz, Xavier Gantz, Charlotte Gantz, and Carson Gantz. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Martin was preceded in death by his daughter, Kira Gantz; his brother, Robert Gantz; his sister, Alice Davidson; and his parents, Clarence and Alice Gantz.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 8, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, Farmington.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 9, at St. Fabian Catholic Church, 32200 W. Twelve Mile Road, Farmington Hills.
Martin will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Please keep Martin and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
