Obituary

Marna Diane Raitanen, age 57, passed away on August 4, 2026. Marna was a natural caregiver, gifted with a brilliant mind, a compassionate heart, and a genuine desire to help those around her. She made a lasting difference in the lives of the people she cared for, both personally and professionally.

From an early age, Marna's intelligence and love of learning were evident. She excelled in her studies and went on to attend Alma College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She continued her education at Wayne State University, completing its accelerated nursing program before becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Marna devoted an incredible 35 years of her career to the Detroit Medical Center, where her knowledge, dedication, and caring nature made her an exceptional nurse and mentor.

Music was another important part of Marna's life. She sang in her high school choir and later became a member of the elite Village Singers and the Women's Ensemble. She also had an immense love for Sting and his music. Her passion for his work took her across the United States, following his performances and creating memories she treasured.

Marna was a true world traveler who loved experiencing new places, cultures, and adventures. Her travels took her to Africa, Egypt, Peru, Paris, Amsterdam, Belgium, Greece, and many other destinations. She embraced each journey with curiosity and enthusiasm, always returning home with stories and memories to share.

Her love for animals was profound, and her pets held a very special place in her heart. Above all was her beloved Brinks, who was truly her whole world and her constant companion. The bond they shared was one of the greatest joys of Marna's life.

Marna was an incredible mentor, aunt, sister, and friend. She gave generously of herself and had a way of making people feel cared for and supported.

She is survived by her brother, Mark (Tamara); her nephew, Tyler; her godson, Richard Tuttle III; and her surrogate daughter, Katherine Adwell.

Marna will be remembered for her brilliant mind, caring spirit, adventurous soul, love of music, devotion to her family and friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her remarkable life. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, knowledge, friendship, and love that will continue through all those fortunate enough to have known her.
