Mark Anthony
Martell
Jun 9, 1958 — Jan 9, 2025
Farmington Hills
Mark A. Martell, born June 9, 1958, in Royal Oak, Michigan, passed away January 9, 2025. The seventh of 11 children born to the late Charles and Joyce Martell, Mark grew up in Farmington, where he cultivated a lifelong passion for cars, fixing, building, and his friends and family.
At 21, Mark married Kathryn "Kay", his high school sweetheart. Their marriage was a partnership forged in love, hard work, and resilience. When Kay suffered two strokes later in life, Mark became her caretaker with the same determination he applied to everything else in his life. Against all odds, he cared for her with steadfast dedication until the week before his passing, proving his strength and loyalty.
Mark developed a love for muscle cars at a young age that passion was only extenuated with his prized 400 Trans Am. He instilled his love of cars in his son Will, passing along knowledge and gifting him an IROC-Z Camaro as his first car—a connection they shared and a car that remains in Mark's garage today.
Beyond cars, Mark was a man of immense ambition. When he and Kay moved into what was meant to be a temporary fixer-upper, it became their forever home. Mark took on the task of gutting and rebuilding the house alongside his brother Dave, turning it into a cherished family residence. Over the years, his knowledge of home renovation proved to be invaluable, leading to the remodel of Will's family home and barn, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and care for future generations.
Mark's pride extended to every member of his family. From teaching practical skills to making breakfast for his sons, Mark found joy in the everyday moments. Since Kay didn't like eggs, Mark became the family breakfast chef and unknowingly sparked M.C.'s future as a chef, by teaching him to make omelets. Family, for Mark, was his greatest accomplishment.
Always the first to offer help, Mark's straightforward and dependable nature left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His legacy is one of unwavering dedication to his family, his passions, and the many lives he touched with humility and grace.
Mark is survived by his wife Kathryn Martell; loving sons, Mark Charles "M.C." Martell and William (Stacey) Martell; adored grandchildren, Joseph Anthony Martell and Olivia Evelyn Martell; and his ten siblings, Pat Lagrois, Charles Martell, Gail Martell, Steve Martell, Dave Martell, John Martell, Joyce (Jodi) Martell, Tom Martell, Paul Martell, and Tracy Jacobs.
