Obituary

Marjorie J. Barr (Wilkie), age 97, of Plymouth, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Marjorie was born on March 20, 1927, in Plymouth, the daughter of Roy and Elvira (Raupp) Wilkie, and was a lifelong resident of the area. She attended Plymouth schools, where she was known for her remarkable achievements, including winning several spelling bees. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1945, an event that was especially important to her and marked the beginning of a life full of love, hard work, and devotion to family.

Marjorie married the love of her life, Harold Barr, on November 8, 1947, at St. Raphael Church in Garden City. Together, they celebrated 68 years of marriage until Harold's passing on February 26, 2016. Marjorie was a devoted wife and mother, and her family was always her top priority.

Marjorie had a passion for staying active and maintained a disciplined routine, walking 2-3 miles every day. She took great pride in always looking her best before leaving home, exemplifying grace. Family gatherings, particularly the Sunday dinners she lovingly prepared, were an integral part of her life. She was an excellent cook, and her home was often filled with the delicious aromas of her culinary creations.

For many years, Marjorie was also dedicated to her community. She served with love and care, preparing funeral luncheons at St. Dunstan Catholic Church for many families, offering comfort and support during difficult times.

Marjorie's hardworking, kind, and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she enriched.

Marjorie is the loving mother of Garry Barr (Holly), Marleta Barr-Atiyeh (J.R), Christine Barr, Kenneth Barr and the late Harold Barr; cherished grandmother of Sherri, Angelique, Errol, Eric, Rachelle, Danielle, Garry II, Sean, Josh and Jake; great grandmother of 9 and great great grandmother of two. Marjorie was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters.

The Barr family will receive guests on Wednesday, January 15, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, at the funeral home.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 16, 11 am (in state 10:30 am), at St. Gerald Catholic Church, 21300 Farmington Rd., Farmington.
