Obituary

In Loving Memory of Marilyn

Marilyn Ehlert (née Evanich), 94, of Commerce Township peacefully passed away on January 17, 2026, in the loving presence of her children and the caregivers at Angela Hospice Care Center.

Marilyn was born in Springfield, IL, on July 17, 1931, to the late Joseph and Anna Evanich.  She was a class of 1949 graduate of the Ursuline Academy in Springfield and married George Ehlert on February 7, 1953, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, also in Springfield.  Sadly, George preceded her in death on February 25, 2018.

As a 23-year parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Parish in Farmington, she loved attending Mass while enjoying the music provided by the choir.  The monthly luncheons with the Senior Club brought her much joy and friendship.

Marilyn enjoyed cruises and traveling to many places, visiting London, Germany, Austria, China, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, and, most memorable, her family roots in Bezovce, Slovakia.

She lived her last 8 months at Rose Assisted Living in Novi where she met many new friends.  It quickly became her "new home" which she found very comfortable and enjoyable.

Marilyn was the devoted mother of Mark (Sandy), Mary Beth (Dave) Barich, George (Georganne), and David (Sharri); grandmother of Kevin (Jennifer) Ehlert, Scott (Rayna) Ehlert, David (Jeannette) Barich, Michael (Bridgette) Barich, Paul (Samantha) Barich, Stephen (Karen) Barich, Steven (Julie) Ehlert, Gregory (Nancie) Ehlert, Kathy (Robby) Troehler, Benjamin Ehlert and Megan (Nicholas) Putigna; and great-grandmother of Geoffrey, Andrew, J, Rosie, Drew, Kinsley, Jacob, Aidan, Helen, Avery, Matthew, and Mackenzie.  She is survived by her brother Tom Evanich along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her sister Ann and husband Augie DiCenso, brother George and wife Delsie Evanich, brother John and wife Teresa Evanich, brother Joseph and wife Delores Evanich, sister-in-law Patricia Evanich, brother Ernie Evanich, grandson Daniel Ehlert, and stepsister Carolyn Cody.

Marilyn's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning, January 26, at 10:00 am (in state at 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Road, Farmington.

Interment will be with her husband, George, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, on Monday afternoon at 1:30 pm.  A funeral lunch will be provided immediately following Marilyn's burial, and everyone is invited to share memories, a meal, and drinks.  It will be at Andiamo Pasta + Chops, 102 West Silver Lake Road, Fenton, (810) 354-8446.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Angela Hospice Care of Livonia .

Mass intentions may be made directly with Our Lady of Sorrows at (248) 474-5720 .
