Obituary

Marilyn Bergers (Bintz), of Novi, Michigan, passed away on June 15, 2022.

She was the adored and adoring wife of Adrian Jack Bergers Sr., who left us in 2019 and surely greeted her in heaven with a kiss on the cheek and a Manhattan on the rocks.  Marilyn was the teacher, coach, therapist, and occasional warden to son, Jack Jr. (Kari) and three daughters, Christine Saip (Bruce), Alicia Dean (Tim), and Jeannine Everett (John), and the beloved Nana of Morgan, Kallie, Troy, Griffin and Jonah.  She was the loving sister of Ted Bintz, and once she finishes that heavenly Manhattan, she can catch up with her sisters (Jeannine, Connie, Annette and sister-in-law Marilyn) who all shared the same laugh that ended with a sigh.

Marilyn loved to gather with friends and family, from Michigan State Spartan tailgates and monthly bridge games, to the annual Bintz/Bergers Christmas Eve extravaganza.  There was always enough food for an army, and no one's favorites were ever left out, even if it meant buying cheese balls, cheese puffs, and cheese curls.  She had four address books to keep track of everyone she loved, and kept every greeting card she ever received.  Trust us, we found them all.

She was as singular as her eyes, one hazel, one gray, a woman born before her time–a leader, a scholar and someone who always gave back.  She was Valedictorian of her class at St. Joseph High School in her hometown of Fremont, Ohio and went on to earn a finance degree with high honors at Michigan State University–one of the first women to do so.  While at MSU, she was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority where she frequently volunteered her time supporting various school functions and reading to blind students.  She was a Spartan through and through.

If born today, she would have made a great president.  There would have been a lot of to-do lists. Instead, she was the family CEO who made Halloween costumes out of thin air, chili on Saturday nights after church, and could play "Lara's Theme" on the piano by heart.  She kept every report card, knew exactly what kind of birthday cake we wanted, and sang us to sleep with "I See the Moon."

She loved to sing in the church choir, shuffled cards like a Vegas dealer, and always doled out a little salt with her sugar. That's how you knew she really loved you.  She always sold herself short, but everyone who encountered her, knew she was something special.  She won't be happy to know that we're talking about her when she's not in the room, but there is far too much to share not to.
