Obituary

Marianne Louise Williams, 79, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, peacefully ascended to the heavens on Friday, January 24th, 2025.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday, July 26th, 1945, to Helen & Nelson Williams, the third of six children.  Marianne is survived by her three sisters, Gweneth, Nancy and Phyllis, preceded in death by her sister Kathryn and brother Robert.

After graduating from Redford High School in 1963, she went on to study at Ferris State University, then transferred to Michigan State University to complete her bachelor's degree in 1968.

In 1968, Marianne embarked on a lengthy summer holiday to Europe with two of her closest friends, Mary Sue and Sally.  Upon her return, she worked for a short time at the local Sander's Ice Cream Shop in Detroit, MI.  In 1970, she accepted her first teaching position across the country in Malibu, California.  She taught for two years out west, before returning to Michigan to care for her ailing father.  The remainder of her career was spent teaching in Clarenceville school district at Grandview & Botsford Elementary, retiring in 2007.

In 1982, Marianne welcomed her first child to the world, Mark, followed by her second child, Miles, in 1987.  A steadfast and loving mother, nurturing her children with the values she was raised on, always standing by their side.  Her mother's motto "waste not, want not", was continually passed down to the younger generations.

Marianne was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmington, Michigan.  She served as leader of the child acolyte program for many years and embraced the seasonal enrichment of the display showcase with various arts & crafts, often reusing existing materials.

In 2013, Mark and Valerie married. Marianne was a proud grandmother to Liam (parents Miles and Vanessa), Emerson and Constance (parents Mark and Valerie).

Her retirement was filled with many blessed years of an ever-growing family and circle of friends.  Marianne enjoyed many interests including travel, golf, crafts, journaling and Scrabble. She traveled extensively, including six months in Europe, where she lived in Paris with her college roommate, Nancy.

Her sense of humor, charisma and smile lit up the room and she was always interested in the life stories of others.  In passing, Marianne's spirit leaves an endearing and lasting presence on all that were blessed enough to know her.

Marianne's family will receive guests on Friday, January 31, 3-7 pm, at the funeral home.

A funeral service is planned for Saturday, February 1, 11 am, at First United Methodist Church of Farmington, 33112 Grand River Avenue, Farmington.

Immediately following the funeral service, please join Marianne's family at Cowley's Irish Pub, 33338 Grand River Avenue (one block west of the church) to continue commemorate Marianne's life.
