Obituary

Maria G. Hoeflein, of Farmington Hills, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, entered eternal life on August 17, 2024, at Angela Hospice, Livonia.  She was 80 years old. Born in Poland on November 28, 1943, to the late Stanley and Margaret (Lucki) Strociak, Maria's life was marked by faith, love, and service.

Maria's journey began in Poland.  She immigrated to the United States in 1958. After graduating from St. Florian High School in 1961, her passion for science led her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from Madonna University. She dedicated her career to the health and well-being of others as a microbiologist at Providence Hospital, where she served with great skill and compassion.

On October 16, 1971, Maria married the love of her life, John Hoeflein, Jr., at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Detroit. Maria's greatest joy was her family. As a devoted wife, she and John shared over 50 years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. As a mother and grandmother, her devotion to her family and faith was an inspiration.

A devout Catholic, Maria was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Farmington. Always seeking to educate and bless others with fellowship and prayer, she was a founding board member of Call to Holiness and faithfully served for many years. Maria was also a co-founder and leader of the Heart to Heart Catholic Women's Apostolate for twenty years, offering her time and heart to support and uplift women in their faith journeys.

Her legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Maria is survived by her loving husband, John Hoeflein, Jr.; her children, Andrea Safranski and Michael (Laura) Hoeflein; grandchildren, John, Thomas, William and Matthew Safranski, and Christian, Cecilia, Clare, Colum, Colette and Casey Hoeflein; her brother, Andrew Strociak, as well a host of friends. She is now reunited with her parents in the embrace of eternal life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning, at 10:00 am (in state 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington.  Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. In lieu of flowers, please pray for the repose of the soul of Maria by offering Masses.

May her soul rest in peace, and may perpetual light shine upon her.
