Mari
Obeidi
Nov 8, 1929 — Apr 10, 2024
Novi
Mari, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed into eternal life on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. She was 94.
Mari was born on November 8, 1929, in Antakya (Antioch), Turkey, the daughter of the late Natalya and Hanna Madany. From a young age, she found great pleasure in cooking, needlework, and knitting. She was especially remembered for her delicious meals and desserts. On April 28, 1968, Mari married Jozef Obeidi and settled in a home in Iskenderun, Turkey, where they lived for 27 years. They enjoyed staying in the Sogukoluk mountainside and Arsuz Mediterranean beach area in Turkey during the summers. In 1995, Mari and Jozef immigrated to the United States, settling in Farmington Hills, Michigan, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. When Jozef passed in 2003, Mari moved in with her daughter Rana and son-in-law Joseph Sharnowski. She cherished getting to watch her granddaughters Annabel and Elena grow up and devoted herself to their care and happiness throughout the years.
Mari is survived by her children Rana (Joseph) Sharnowski, Fotin (the late Sami) Onay, Michael (Feryal) Obeidi, Selma (the late Ferdi) Nadir, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Mari was preceded in death by her late husband Jozef, sister Elaine (the late Naim) Yatros, and brothers Ibrahim (Barbara) Madany, Abdo (Marina) Madany, and Frank (the late Mukrime) Madany.
Family and friends may gather for the visitation at the Basilica of St. Mary, 18100 Merriman Rd, Livonia 48152 on Sunday evening, April 14, from 6-8 pm. A prayer service will commence at 7:30 pm.
Mari's funeral ceremony is planned for Monday, April 15, at 11:00 am (visitation at 10:00 am), also at the Basilica of St. Mary.
Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Basilica of St. Mary in her name.
Kindly keep the Obeidi, Madany, and Yatros families in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
