Marguerite R.
Jaworsky
Oct 18, 1923 — Sep 28, 2023
Farmington
Marguerite Rosine Jaworsky, of Farmington, was called home on Thursday September 28 at Angela Hospice at the age of 99.
Marguerite was born on October 18, 1923, in Geneva, Switzerland, to the late Jean and Rosine (Beck) Favarger. From her early years she developed a love for the outdoors. She enjoyed organizing family trips to the Swiss Apls and spending time climbing the Aiguille de la Tsa with her cousin. She delighted in singing and playing piano and harmonica. She gained her elegant taste for flowers from her mom who was a florist and she always enjoyed making beautiful floral arrangements. As her family owned Favarger Chocolates, Marguerite developed a delicate taste for fine chocolates. She liked to share stories on how to create fine-melting texture by evenly combining the cocoa mass and the cocoa butter with other ingredients like sugar and milk.
While being a Rockefeller Foundation Followship student in Detroit, Michigan in 1960s, she met the love of her life, Walter. They got married on the beautiful Lake Geneva in Switzerland in 1965, and spent 50 beautiful years together.
On daily basis Marguerite demonstrated things which matter the most in life. As the Bible says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind". Every morning she nourished her soul with reading the Bible and spending time in prayer. She was deeply interested in the Lord's work from around the world and it was always a joy to host friends in her home. She was a bridge builder and has shared her heart for Walter's family in Ukraine and in Michigan.
Marguerite was a lifelong learner and passionate about education. Marguerite earned a Master in Public Health from Ecole d' Etudes Sociales in Geneva, Switzerland, and a Master of Science in Nursing from Wayne State University. Throughout her career she has been a Professor of Nursing at the University of Detroit Mercy, Shapiro school of Nursing, Sinai Hospital of Detroit, and Ecole d'Infirmieres Le Bon Secours, Geneva, Switzerland. She has always showed compassion for the elderly population and made significant contributions to the gerontology field by conducting research, designing learning models and educating students. Marguerite was a recipient of President's Award for Faculty Excellence, acknowledging her teaching excellence, research and service at the University of Detroit Mercy. She always enjoyed meeting and connecting with her students and colleagues.
Marguerite is survived by her sister Rosine (Favarger) Juston, numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, both here, in France, Switzerland and Ukraine. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Walter Jaworsky, three brothers and three sisters.
Marguerite's beautiful and gentle soul touched many lives. She will be missed dearly and loved forever.
The Jaworsky family will receive guests Saturday, October 7, 10-11am at the funeral home.
A celebration of life service will be Saturday, October 7, 11 am at the funeral home. Immediately following the service she will laid to rest, next to her husband Walter, at Oakwood Cemetery, downtown Farmington.
In lieu of flowers, tributes are suggested to Grain of Wheat International or HART (Humanitarian Aid Response Team) for mission work with children.
Please keep the Jaworsky family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
