Lynch
Jul 16, 1941 — Feb 10, 2025
Lyn, of Farmington Hills, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, entered eternal life on the evening of Monday, February 10, 2025, at Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital. She was 83 years old.
Lyn was born on July 16, 1941, to the late Donald and Helen (Hamilton) Sepanek. She was raised in Detroit, where she graduated from Southeastern High School before pursuing her passion for dentistry at the University of Detroit Dental School. She took immense pride in her career as a dental hygienist, finding fulfillment in helping others.
Lyn met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Lynch, after cleaning his teeth and they always fondly remembered their first date at the Golden Lion Restaurant in Detroit in October of 1963. On October 2, 1965, they professed their wedding vows at St. Basil Catholic Church in Detroit and enjoyed honeymooning in Puerto Rico and Saint Thomas. As newlyweds, Dick and Lyn lived in Lafayette Towers in Detroit before relocating to their beautiful home in Farmington Hills for the remainder of their marriage. A very memorable event for them was a 50th anniversary cruise to the Bahamas that Richard, Lyn, Julie, Riley and Erica celebrated. Together, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and adventure until Richard's passing on October 24, 2022.
Lyn had an undeniable zest for life. As "Miss Skiwi 1964," she was recognized by a southeastern Michigan ski and social club, a testament to her vibrant personality and love for the slopes. She enjoyed skiing in northern Michigan and out west in Colorado, as well as golfing, and playing pickleball. She and Richard embraced every opportunity to travel, exploring the world together. Whether at their beloved cottage on Elk Lake, their favorite Carribean Island of Sint Maartin, their timeshares in Anna Maria Island, FL, and Sedona, AZ, or wintering in The Villages in Florida, Lyn found joy in every place she called home.
A true social butterfly, she was always up for a party and never turned down an opportunity to have fun—especially if it involved good company and a well-made Manhattan. She adored being on the water, whether boating, shelling by the ocean, or reminiscing about summers spent on Boblo Island, where her grandmother worked. She and Richard were also active in his fraternity, Theta Tau, and Lyn embraced every new experience life offered, from tap dancing to learning Spanish so she could communicate with a child they sponsored in San Salvador.
Lyn was an amazing cook and baker, a devoted cheerleader in her youth and in spirit throughout her life, and above all, a proud and loving mother and grandmother. Her bright smile and infectious happiness made her a joy to be around, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. She was the heart of her family, known to her grandchildren and their friends as "Mama Lyn," and she radiated joy, warmth, and an adventurous spirit throughout her life.
Lyn is survived by her devoted daughter, Julie (Russell) Lewis; cherished grandchildren, Riley Christian and Erica Lyn Laycock; step-grandchildren, Rachel (Tatum) and Alison Lewis; siblings, Sheryl Alef and Ronald Sepanek; a sister-in-law, Dolores Matthews, as well as nieces and nephews, Michael Sepanek, Shawn (Melissa) Sepanek, Meghan Alef, Taylor (Jordan) Arace, Ryan Myers, Melissa Matthews, and Jan (Dan) Liu. In addition to her parents and husband, Lyn was preceded in death by siblings, Gail, Donald and Patti Sepanek, and a niece, Laurel Matthews.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, on Thursday, February 20, from 3-8 pm, with a 7 pm rosary.
Lyn's funeral mass will be celebrated Friday morning, February 21, at 10:00 am (in state 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington.
Interment at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens, Novi, will follow the luncheon.
Memorial tributes are suggested to Unbound (supporting families and communities worldwide on their self-directed paths out of poverty), or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
As she rejoins Richard in eternal peace, her struggles are now washed away—like grains of sand into the ocean she loved so deeply.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and fondly remembered.
