Loretta Mechalko, age 86, formerly of Gladwin, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 23, 2023 in Commerce Twp.

Loretta was born in Detroit, MI, May 31, 1937, and was raised in Redford, the daughter of the late Elsie and Howard Storm.

An unwavering enthusiast of the Detroit Red Wings, Loretta's fervor for her team ignited spirited conversations and brought joy to countless games. Her enthusiasm extended to the bustling energy of Detroit's casinos, where the thrill of the slot machines held a special place in her heart.

Yet, amidst her adventures, Loretta found solace and immense joy in the embrace of family, particularly at the beloved Gladwin cottage. Those hallowed grounds witnessed the creation of countless cherished memories, eventually becoming her cherished permanent home.

Her grandkids were the heartbeats that resonated most deeply within her. Their laughter and presence illuminated her world, forging bonds that knew no bounds.

Beyond her passions and her family's love, Loretta's culinary prowess was legendary. Her mastery of the kitchen yielded a stuffed cabbage dish that left an indelible mark on every palate fortunate enough to savor its deliciousness. Her absence leaves a culinary void impossible to fill.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William.

Loretta is the loving mother of Susan Cruse (Timothy), Steven Mechalko (Cindy) and Julie Kanable; beloved grandmother of 11 and great grandmother of 7.

The Mechalko family will receive guests Thursday, December 28, 10am – 1pm at the funeral home, where a funeral service will be held at 1 pm.

A funeral procession will take Loretta to her place of rest, Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia.  She will be laid to rest next to her husband, William.
