Lawrence L.
Whitman
Sep 18, 1928 — Jun 4, 2024
Redford
Larry "Bud" Whitman, age 95, passed away on June 4, 2024. Born in Detroit on September 18, 1928, he was the youngest of five children. He was predeceased by his brothers Ralph and Robert, and his sisters Ruth and Matilda.
Larry married the love of his life, Lillian "Esther" (née Kinjorski). Together, they raised three children: Susan Reid (Phillip), Barbara Pinneo (Douglas), and David (Georgine). Larry was a devoted grandfather to Anne, Kathleen, Julie, Jacquelyn, and Stacey, and a proud great-grandfather to eleven: Max, Mazzie, Madalyn, Ryan, Addison, Megan, Lillian, Aubrey, Annabelle, Isla, and Claire. He will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and all who knew him as "Uncle Bud."
A master finish carpenter and construction foreman, Larry supervised numerous significant projects, including the initial construction of Domino's Farms, Our Lady Queen of Peace, and five Milford schools. He also oversaw the refurbishing of William Clay Ford's home in Grosse Pointe and the Henry Ford Museum's Walk of Shops. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry built his own homes in Redford and on Grand Lake in Presque Isle, and he helped build his son David's home. His talents extended to wood carving, painting, and performing magic tricks. Larry was known for his great sense of humor, love for telling jokes, and a smile that could light up a room.
