Obituary

Larry Roderick Grant, 88, passed away on July 26, 2025, in the loving care of his family and the staff at Woodhaven Assisted Living in Livonia, Michigan.

Larry was born in Flint on October 7,1936 to Roderick and Adiene Grant, he was the eldest of three boys.

Larry was heavily influenced by his grandparents in his early years, he frequently reflected on the positive time and experiences with them.  In 1946, his family relocated to Detroit.  He graduated from Mumford High School in 1954 and then from the University of Detroit Mercy in 1959 with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.  He started his career as an auditor with the City of Detroit and then the National Bank of Detroit where he ended his career in management.  Larry proudly served in the US Army Reserves during the early 1960s.  Larry met his wife, Judith Esther Long, when she was 15 and he was 17.  They were married in 1959.   A majority of their 69 years together was spent living in Farmington, Michigan.

Larry had a passion for trains, stamps and toy soldier collecting.  He was a die-hard, life-time Detroit Tigers baseball fan.  Larry greatly enjoyed playing with his silky terrier dogs, Cujo, Radar and Sonar.  With retirement, he seized the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren and took care of them before and after school each day.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy.  He will be greatly missed by his two daughters and spouses, Kathy (Steve) Schulte and Amy (Steve) Henning; four grandchildren and their spouses or soon to be spouses:   Libby (Matt) Dzurka, Andrew (Bonnie) Schulte, Abby (Andrew) Kaiserauer and Becky (Jake) Fosmoen; and three great-grandchildren, Henry and Aubrey Dzurka and Sam Kaiserauer.

At a later date, a private memorial service will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove, Michigan.   At that time, both Larry and Judy's ashes will be interred alongside her parents who loved him dearly.
