Obituary

On Saturday, July 6, 2024, we said our earthly goodbyes to Kimberly Dawn Fonseca as she was called home to be with her Lord and Savior.

While we as a family grieve her sudden loss, we give thanks to God for her 63 years on earth and His promises of life eternal to all those who believe.

Kim was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 12th, 1960.  She was the oldest of 4 girls, with a brother just slightly older than herself.

She always felt the need to "watch over" and care for her younger sisters.

God gifted Kimmie with a beautiful singing voice and her ability to harmonize was a joy to listen to throughout her life.

In her teen years, she enjoyed going to music festivals with her youth group at church.

One of her favorite singers in High School was Andre Crouch.  As she grew older and experienced some of life's trials, the words to his song "Through It All" really resonated with her.

(i.e. – I've had many tears and sorrows,

I've had questions for tomorrow,

There's been times I didn't know right from wrong.

But in every situation,

God gave me blessed consolation,

That the trials come to only make me strong.

Through It All, Through It All, I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God.

Through It All, Through It All, I've learned to depend upon His word.)

After high school, Kim met and eventually married Henry Fonseca.  At the time, all we knew was he was the guy that would pull up to the house in a van with curtains in the windows.

They went on to have two wonderful children, Alexa and Michael.

Kim always made it a priority to connect with her sisters and their children.

Actually, our mom, Judi Kinard, was the one that spearheaded most of those gatherings.

None the less, those cousins spent a great deal of time together while growing up and remain as close as brothers and sisters, even to this day.

Chelsea, Kim's oldest niece, noted in a recent social media post:

An Aunt is a Double Blessing – You get to love like a parent and act like a friend.

She continued to write:  Aunt Kimmie loved her family with all that she had.  She was someone I would laugh the hardest with and she would put up with our crazy cousin antics.  You knew when Aunt Kimmie was at an event supporting one of us with her loud clapping and shouts from the stands.  She loved to sing and her voice would stand out above the others during worship in church or singing Motown with family.  She laughed often and loved hard and I consider myself lucky to have had her as my aunt.

Kim worked as a hair stylist for most all of her adult life.  She was very talented, and her clients loved her.

She loved to go on adventures.  Whether it was vacations in Myrtle Beach with the family, day trips or weeklong stays at Camp Dearborn, or trips with Mom or her sisters down south or out west.

I know she would have liked to do more travel in upcoming years.

Unfortunately, God decided to call her home early.

Her daughter Alexa recently noted, "I would not know God the way I do now, had it not been for my mom.  When times got rocky she would often say:  The Lord is my Strength.  He is all I need.

She was a giver.  She was a great model of unconditional love.  Most importantly, she taught me the value of commitment both in my faith and in my marriage.

Kim is preceded in death by her husband Henry Fonseca, her father William Kinard and Mother Judith Kinard.  She is survived by her children – Alexa (and Michael) Leich, Michael (and Missy) Fonseca and her stepdaughter, Angela (and Patrick) Young.  Also survived by her precious grandchildren, Mia Fonseca, Mai Fonseca, Milo Fonseca, Charlie Leich and step grandchildren, Miles Young, Lauren Young, Stella Young as well as many nieces and nephews.  Also survived by her brother, Kevin (and Rhoda) Kinard, Kelli (and Mark) Pickett, Kristi Kinard and Kathi (and Lewis) Yokom.

We so miss Kimmie dearly, but know she believed this verse when Jesus said in John 11:25-26:  I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.

Thanks be to God.
