Kathy M.
Coughlin-Sapp
Oct 30, 1949 — Jul 31, 2026
West Bloomfield
Our family is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mom, and Nana, Kathy, who left us on July 31, 2026.
For 55 years, Kathy walked hand in hand with her best friend and devoted husband, Dan, building a life filled with unwavering love, laughter, and an extraordinary partnership. Their relationship was an inspiration to everyone who knew them. Their love story began at Central Michigan University, where they met through the Chippewa Booster Club, and from that moment on, they were rarely apart. Together, they shared a lifetime of adventures, traveling, creating cherished memories with their children and grandchildren, and finding joy simply in being together. At the end of each day, one of their favorite traditions was holding hands while watching Hallmark movies—a simple ritual that perfectly reflected the comfort, companionship, and enduring love they shared. Their love was the foundation of our family and a beautiful example of lifelong devotion.
Kathy poured her whole heart into being a mom. She raised her children with endless love, kindness, strength, and compassion, teaching them by example how to care deeply for others. She never missed a milestone, celebration, or opportunity to be there for her family. Some of our most treasured memories are of baking holiday cookies together, family vacations, bike rides around the circle, weekly girls' nights, and seeing her radiant smile at every special event. She had a remarkable gift for making birthdays, holidays, and even ordinary days feel magical—a legacy her daughters and grandchildren will proudly carry on.
Nothing brought Kathy greater happiness than being "Nana," a title she wore with immense pride and endless love. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them—whether attending their performances and games, playing games together, drawing pictures, reading stories, or simply sharing cuddles. To them, Nana was a source of unconditional love, comfort, encouragement, and fun. The memories they created together will remain in their hearts forever.
Kathy dedicated her career to enriching the lives of children through education. As an educator, she embraced her role with compassion and purpose, understanding the lasting impact a caring teacher can have on a child's life. She made sure each student knew they were valued, supported, and deeply cared for. Countless hours were spent before and after the school day preparing lessons and finding ways to give her students the best education possible. Even in retirement, her passion for helping children never faded, as she continued to volunteer in her grandchildren's schools, sharing the same kindness, encouragement, and dedication that defined her career.
Kathy had an extraordinary way of making everyone she met feel seen, valued, heard and loved. She never met someone without offering a genuine compliment or finding a way to brighten their day. Her warmth, kindness, and infectious smile made people feel welcome, and you always left her presence feeling happier than when you arrived. She gave so much of herself to others, always putting their happiness before her own, and the love she shared was returned many times over by the countless family members, friends, neighbors, and lives she touched.
Kathy was deeply loved—not only by her family, but by everyone fortunate enough to know her. While our hearts are broken by her absence, we are forever grateful for the immeasurable love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the values she instilled, the traditions she created, and the countless lives she made brighter. She will be missed beyond words and loved beyond measure, always.
